Also, according to her letter: "John Edie signed a land grant in Brooks Co. which Hugh Pugh purchased from William Randolph of Washington Co., Pa., in 1808. Hugh Pugh had purchased the land where Pughtown, earlier known as Fairview, W. Va., is now situated and was running an inn there before 1800. Hugh Pugh I was the grandfather of my (Laura Edie Pugh) father." George Jackson Pugh and Martha B. Anderson were married 5/14/1884 and had 6 boys and 5 girls who lived to maturity. My grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Pugh (always called Jeff) was the third oldest. You mention in your posting that David Pugh also owned land in Pughtown. Was he a brother of Hugh, or his son? I'm not absolutely positive, but I think the father of George Jackson Pugh was named Thomas Jefferson (the same as my grandfather). If you have any more information, I'd be very interested. Thank you, Linda Cook
