They also say James died there in 1856. The rest of the family left for IA in 1853 so... unless he was too sick to travel and stayed behind with married kids, we must have an incorrect death date. I'd like to know when he died and where he's buried. Eleanor moved to IA in 1853 with a wagon train of about 90 people. They stopped at Montezuma, IA for several months then moved on to Madison County. Two of her married children came all the way to Madison County with her: John Cassiday Porter and Susanna Porter Reed. Eleanor Scott Porter was born 5/1/1780 in Donegal County Ireland and died 7/2/1857. As far as I can tell she is the oldest caucasian buried in Madison County, IA. She is buried at Sayre Cemetary. The stone marking her grave is still easy to read. Rob
