Tarr, 87, of Mingo Junction passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla. He was born on July 16, 1917, in Georges Run, a son of the late George Edward Tarr, who was a former member of the Ohio House of Representa- tives and a former Jefferson County Commissioner and the late Mary Elizabeth (Bailie) Tarr. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris (Strickler) Tarr on July 25, 1996; a brother, Brainard "Bar- ney" Bailie Tarr in 1995; and a sister, Gladys Elizabeth "Bet- ty" Tarr. Bill was a rural route mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was also a former Real Estate Agent and former building manager of Ohio Valley Towers in Steu- benville. He was a charter member of the Brilliant Boat Club and a past commander of the Brilliant Power Squadron. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II and was affili- ated with the Georges Run Un- ited Methodist Church. Surviving are his son, John W. and wife, Marilyn Tarr of Toronto; three daughters, Janie and husband, Edward Wittmer of Mingo, Judith Ann and husband Robert Korte of Los Olivos, Calif. and Joyce Lynn Tarr of Mingo; and two grandchildren, Jacquelyn Tarr of Columbus, Ohio and Ben Tarr of Kent, Ohio. Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until the Memorial Service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, at Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant with Pastor Gloria Bloomquist officiating. A private interment will follow in New Alexandria Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to A.L.S. or the American Heart Association.
