    1. James Young - Mystery Man - Ireland - PA 1715
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Young, Cooper, Pinkerton, Robison, Robinson, Buchanan, Lain, Lane, Moreland, Hayes, Miles, Moore Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FCC.2ACE/1928 Message Board Post: After fifteen years of searching for lines on this ancestor I am posting to see if other Young family’s lines may have the same legends in their family history. James Young is thought to be born in Ireland between 1715 and 1726 to Scotch heritage, when he came to Pennsylvania is not known but that his wife is Elizabeth Cooper (Couper ?) and lived in the Lancaster/Cumberland/York Counties of PA. Believe he was married before the Revolution and had several children. Legend and some written records has it that he was a Wagon Master in the Quartermaster Supply for Valley Forge, other state that he was in different battles of the Revolution but have not been able to support these facts. All facts and other leads have point to other people or no doctumation at all. The strange part is that three diverse family lines that split up about time of the Civil War had the same story and did not get back together again until the 1960's. Legend continues with this James Young dying in Brooke County, West Virginia and also in Brown County Ohio in 1826. No evidence of his death has been found at either location, no pension records has been found ei! ther. James and John were to have been the older two sons and legend has it they were in the Indian Wars of Ohio, one killed and another never heard of again. Again no evidence has supported this. Daughter Margaret Young was reported to have married a Thomas Lain / Lane in Washington County PA, have found land deeds there before 1800 but nothing farther on this line. Elizabeth Moreland Young b: 1776, moved to Mercer / Lawrence County PA and married John Pinkerton, this is know and proven but many of the descendants of this family have not been identified. Youngest son William Young also moved to Mercer / Lawrence County PA and married Mary Robison / Robinson, daughter of Samuel Robison / Robinson. Mary died young after having two sons then William married Margaret Buchanan of whose parents are unknown but believe from early settlers in the New Wilmington area of Lawrence County. They had four sons and two of them moved west to Minnesota and Ohio into Missouri. All of these know li! nes are filled with Presbyterian ministers. After much mulling over information and consulting with other there appears to be a chance that some of the family verbal history may have slipped and some of us believe there may be a chance of a missing generation between James and the group of children listed above. Elizabeth Young's middle name of Moreland is a lead that may support the theory along with some information on the Buchanan lines. Some of these families had lines that were in Virginia then migrated back to Pennsylvania after the revolution into Washington County and some then up to the Mercer / Lawrence area. Would appreciate any feedback or information on similar sounding names or stories in your family.
