Hello Cathie, I can't help much with the FOWLER family, but I can identify Elizabeth CALLENDINE... A good place to start is with Brooke County Deed Book 8, pp 6-7. The deed there commences [I have added a few commas to improve readability]: "This Indenture made and entered into this eleventh day of November in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty six by and between Martin Callendine, Abraham Callendine and Catherine his wife, Henry Callendine and Dorcas his wife, William Fowler and Elizabeth his wife, George A. Vincent and Margaret his wife all of the county of Brooke and State of Virginia of the first part and Daniel Callendine junior of the same county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that whereas Daniel Callendine Senior late of Brooke County Virginia did by his last will and testament devise the land hereinafter described unto the said Daniel junior and whereas the said Martin, Daniel jun., Abraham, Henry, Dorcas, William, George and [illegible] as guardians for Daniel Wartenbe and Sarah Wartenbe entered into an article of agreement on the 28th of January 1822 whereby they bound themselves to stand to and perform the said last will and testament of the said Daniel deceased......." From this and other deeds - and the will of Daniel Senior - it is clear that Martin, Daniel jr., Abraham and Henry were sons of Daniel Callendine, Sr. (deceased) and his wife Elizabeth; their daughters were Elizabeth [who married William Fowler], Margaret [who married George A. Vincent] and a third, deceased daughter [who had married Francis Wartenbe, who was also deceased by 1826]. The Wartenbes had left two orphan children, Daniel and Sarah [grandchildren of Daniel, Sr.] - and there's a =lot= of Brooke county paperwork about them and their inheritance! I won't get into detail here, but Daniel Callendine Senior came to Brooke county [then still part of Ohio county] in the late 1780s; several brothers also joined him, but it is not certain exactly when they came - or if they all came together. What is certain is that they came to now-Brooke county from Lancaster county, Pennsylvania and were the sons of Friedrich Abraham GALLATIN [as the name was generally spelled in the Lancaster county area] and his wife Maria Philopena. The GALLATIN/COLLENDINE/CALLENDINE surname appears in a number of spelling variants that are roughly equivalent, phonetically, also including GALLENTINE [a variant used by some modern descendants]. My particular interest in this family lies in the fact that Anna Maria/ Mary GALLATIN married Valentine MENDEL, another of the early settlers of now-Brooke county - and Mary was a sister of Daniel Sr. The preceding is a brief outline of only a part of the CALLENDINE families of Brooke county. Please contact me offlist for further, more detailed info and/or discussion.
