Interesting note - Alexander was listed as Alexander Curtis in the marriage record in Brooke? not sure why? but he named a son Curtis. ALso found in a land deed in Brooke abt 1831 Richard Porter & Martha (Ralston) sold land to George Allison. this lot of 60 acres of land was Martha's from her parents Samuel & Martha's estate in 1829, daughter Martha was single then we think. Later this land gets back in the Ralston hands & my GG Ralston grandfather purchased it in 1870's. I can't find a marriage for Richard Porter & Martha Ralston in Brooke. I find a Richard & Alexander Porter both get land in Carroll Co OH the same time period- 1830's-35. then I find a record of marriage for Martha Ralston in 1841 Brooke marry's Abraham Morehead. I found Martha Ralston Morehead buried in the Morehead cem in Carroll co OH, with several young children & 2 listings of Abraham Moreheads married in Carroll, 1 is buried with wife in Harlem springs cem in Carroll Co. I have other Morehead connections to my Ralstons. SO I wonder if she married Richard Porter, sold land in Brooke, they moved to Carroll co- with money from the land sell...then he died? or they divorced? & she went back to Brooke & married Abraham Morehead & moved back to Carroll co OH? But only a guess till I find out more info. Do you have dates of birth & death of James & Eleanor Porter? where are they buried? Thanks for sharing the info with me. Treasure it. Happy Trails in all your searching too. Kim

I was just reading an Ohio Co VA/WV McIntire deed from the Buffalo Creek area that has this: "Being part of three patents Issued to said John McIngtier the first bearing the date 1789 and the other Two on the 19th day of time 1792 as will more fully appear by the Reffrance to Said Pattants Situate & Bounded as followeth" I didn't find reference to these patents when I was at the Ohio Co courthouse last summer. Where do I find information on those? Did I miss them? Are they in something other than a deed book at the courthouse or at the WV or VA archives somewhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Janet Currie
Was there ever a time that an area around the Brooke/Ohio county area was called Alexandria?? I know that West Alexander is just across the state boundary in PA, but wondering if any of the area behind Wellsburg (Bethany, West Liberty area) might have been called Alexandria, Old Alexandria, Alexander, etc. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Janet Currie
