Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FCC.2ACE/376.393.502 Message Board Post: My wife's great grandfather is George Chester Mick. He was born Aug 28, 1849 in Ohio and died Aug 14, 1918 in Iago Texas. He is buried in Wharton Texas cemetery. He married Clara Morris who was born Mar 29, 1856 in Ohio. She died Aug 4 1927 and is buried next to George. On the 1880 fed. census he and Clara lived in Brown co., Ohio. Later census data shows he lived next in Wyanadott co., Kansas in the town of Turner. Next he lived in Ray co. Missouri where he was a member of the Knights of Pythias organization. He moved to Wharton co. Texas after 1903 but before 1910 where he is listed on the Texas census. He was a prosperous farmer, rancher, cotton gin owner, and general store owner. He was noted for donating the land where the first school in Iago texas was built. He and Clara had the following: Almus b. Ohio April 06, 1877 d. Texas May 03, July 18831945; George Greenlief Mick b. Ohio January 28, 1879 April 14, 1881d. Tex. December 17, 1949; Etta Ann Mick b. Brown co. Ohio! d. Tex 1953; Fred Ernest Mick (my wife's grandfather) b. Wyandotte co. Kansas July 1883; Nellie Mick bDecember 19, 1886. Kansas d. Kansas August 14, 1891;Leslie Mick b. Kansas November 1892. I am unable to make a positive connection to the father of George Chester Mick. Some have suggested a George Mick b. Northhampton Va. 1797 and d. Feb 21 1833 Pike Co. Ohio as his father and his mother would be Ruth Kidd b. 1797 Washington co. Pa. and d. Apr 13 1815, Georgetown Beaver co. Pa. Since you seem to have some data indicating the Rev War records for a George Mick I thought you might know if this George is positively the father of George Chester above. I am working on a family heritage book for my line and my wife's and would appreciate any help you might offer. There are certainly a lot of Mick's in Ohio in the 1800's. My Mick's are of German decent but there is some interesting data that says German's immigrated to Ireland to escape some problem and then later they came to Pa. in the mid 1700's. Mick is a common name in Ireland. One of my wife's uncles said that the spelling has changed from the early ancestors who came to America.

I was told that Van Swearingen was buried over on Pleasant St between two houses near the Board of Education building, maybe down up the street a few houses. I drove there, but not sure of where to look. I was told that there is a stone marking the grave, that has long since fell, although in my Swearingen book I have, it tells of the grave inscription. This place was supposed to have been the former farm of Van Swearingen, many years ago, which later was sold. Would anyone know of this grave?
