Good morning,Would you know of any books on Coketown,W.Va
I have references to an early cemetery in Wellsburg located at 5TH and 6th streets Wellsburg used until 1814 and a second one called teh 12th street cemetery. Does anyone know whether information on internments are available? Josette Maxwell Boone NC
Good Morning: I've come across a reference to a two volume publication called "Private Cemeteries of Brooke County WV" and was wondering if any one knows about it and how valuable it might be. Also, is there a book for wills/ probates after 1849? Specifically, I'm on the trail of two people: John Brownlee died 7 June 1852 and Henry Maxwell died 11 May 1854. Obits/wills/probate records/where buried. Also, has anyone ever heard of a Philip Dodridge who was a minister? I have pension papers showing that he married ancestors 1806 in Wellsburg. He may have married others for whom we have no marriage dates. The only one I can find was a lawyer. There supposedly was a "doddridge meeting house" somewhere proximate to Wellsburg with a burial ground. The Doddridges in records appear to be Protestant Episcopals or Methodist Episcopalians. The Maxwell family had been for generations seceder Presbyterians. Don't know about the Brownlees. Would appreciate any help anyone can offer on advancing my research. Had hoped to get to Brooke county this summer but it didn't work out. Josette Maxwell Boone NC

Hello All, Here's a link to the recent uploaded map of Brooke County. http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvbrooke/BrookeCountyMap.htm It features local towns, creeks, and county road and area park, and may take a while to load as the image remains large so you may read the small county road numbers and creek names. A run is a smaller amount of water than a creek. If they owned land, it would be in the deeds, that might help you find the exact place. (or at least near)

In the 1910 census, they had had 10 children, 8 of which were living. Is there an elderly lady in any by the name of Mary? That was Eliza's mother, who was a widow, residing with them in 1910. Thanks!

I would love to talk with you sometime regarding our ancestry. Almost everyone in Pettorano is related once we can go back far enough. Give me a call 970 925 2810 or send along your phone number and I will give you a call at a time convenient to you. I just had a repeat knee operation yesterday so will be at home except when I have to go to the Doctor or therapy.

After arriving, we asked a young man if he knew anything of our ancestors, The Bonaventuras or Monaco's. He didn't really know of them personally, but for the next hour and a half he gave us a tour of the town and asked everyone we came across if they had heard of our relatives. I think we were about a generation to late for anyone to know of my grandparents, but we did have a wonderful time. He said his brother ran the city town hall which was closed but he would get the key for us. He gave us maps and postcards etc. All in all, just delightful. Our Italian lessons that we took before our trip were invaluable. It was a great time as was the rest of our stay in Italy.

How is your research coming along? I have been on hold for some time now, having put together the 41st Annual Meisser Family Reunion. Even met a relative from Davos, Switzerland who is Vice Mayor there, and he gave us a slide show relative to the Meissers in Davos, having been co-founders of the town back in the 1200's. Lovely man. Am going in for a repeat knee operation on Mon. and am expecting this one to work....last was a failure but we think it was a build up of scar tissue.
