It was these two who were killed 23 May 1791 by indians. You mention a Hustanaes Van Buskirk. I have never seen that name, but I do have 2 unknown daughter listed for VB and Cammel. Their son George G. m Mary Crepp no more info John (177) m Elizabeth Hendricks Lewis Taylor (1760) m. Martha Patsey 2 Unk Daughs m. John Sims and Edward Murphy Notes I have on file............... he earliest record of him was a militia commissary receipt dtd Aug1777, while in Capt. Ogle's company at Fort Henry, near Wheeling Va. Mrs Irene Shoemaker quotes from "The Yellow Creek Stories", about a VB lad on horseback, who took grain or corn to a mill - the boy was killed by Indians. He was probably a younger son of Lawrence. Lawrence Van Buskirk and his wife Rebeccah lived along Buffalo Creek, near the Ohio River in the VA panhandle from the spring of 1780 until his death in 1801. Prior to that time it is believed that they lived in the area of Frederick Co., VA where their names are listed in the court records of the 1760's. He is listed as serving in Capt. Joseph Ogle's Company during the Revolution, having entered service June 3, 1777. He is later referred to as a captain in command of Fort Decker near Mingo in 1782. He was still referred to as Captain Buskirk in a military capacity as late as January 1793. His son Lieutenant Lawrence Van Buskirk was killed in an ambush by indians during a battle where the indians were being pursued after killing Lt. Van Buskirk's wife. The murder of Rebeccah Van Buskirk occured in 1791. In a letter to Lyman Draper he was referred to as " A Captain of the Spies - living six miles down the river from the mouth of Big Buffalo Creek, Brooke Co., VA".[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 18, Ed. 1, Tree #1871, Date of Import: Nov 11, 1998] Name: Lawrence Van Buskirk Sex: M Birth: ABT 1720 in ,Frederick,Va,USA Death: 1801 in ,Brooke,WV,USA Note: Lawrence Van Buskirk emigrated to the United States very early in the history of the country. He was one of the first white men to cross the Alleghanies, settling near the present town of Wellsburgh West Va. (then old Virginia) his family suffered much from hostile Indians and often fled for safety to the fort nearby. One son was tomahawked by the savages and another fell at the battle of Grave Creek, near Eellsburg. His daughter married a man by the name of Cain. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=gordonprice&id=I4212 http://www.gillean.com/Roots/db/dat346.htm#11 Happy New Year, Happy Hunting!

I haven't been able to find much on them. I think I did find a death date at one time but I'll have to locate that again. I know they had one son, John C. May who was living with A James Smith family in 1880 census. Alexander and Drusilla had both passed away by then and John was about 16. There is a John May and Nannie May buried in Franklin Cemetery in Brooke County. Is this John May the son of Alexander and Drusilla? Nannie is the daughter of a James Devore and Jane Yeaters I believe. Where are Alexander and Drusilla buried? More questions, my grandfather's sister, Sophia Gertrude Stewart, married a J.M. Wiegmann and I believe they lived in Avella. I would like to find more info on them, if they had children, where they are buried, etc. Thanks for any help! Barb

I seem to come up with more questions than answers. In Elizabeth Stewart's will she mentions children John Stewart (my gg grandfathter), Margaret Burns, Elizabeth Stewart, Sarah Ann, wife of Isaac Goudy, Isaac Stewart and James Stewart and grandson Madison Abraham. The will is dated Oct. 3, 1854. Who did Margaret Burns marry? Who is Madison Abraham the son of? From what I've been able to gather, Elizabeth's husband died in 1813 and Sarah Ann and Isaac were born 1818/19. Where did they come from, who are their parents? Are they children Elizabeth took in and raised? Maybe a niece and nephew? I've found Sarah Ann and Isaac Goudy in Marshall County census records and Isaac married Sophia Black and they ran a boarding home in Bethany for college students. I have many more questions about my Stewarts but I'll save them for a seperate post. I hope someone can help! Thanks! Barb
