THANKS for all the responses I received following my request seeking the parents of William Hudkins who married Mary Boggs in 1831 in Nicholas County, now WV. Most seem to think that William was the son of Ralph Hudkins and wife Susannah. A few think that William was the son of Basil/Bascal Hudkins, his brother. The death record on the West Virginia Archives site shows a particular William Hudkins with a wife named Mary; the record shows his parents as Ralph and Susannah. In the book HISTORY OF BRAXTON COUNTY by John Sutton it shows William Hudkins who married Mary Boggs as the son of Bascal Hudkins. So, which is correct? Were there two William Hudkins in Braxton: both marrying someone named Mary? I know that books can sometimes be wrong and even death records are sometimes wrong. And, incorrect information gets repeated over and over; same for correct information. Any comments would be appreciated. I know there are a lot of Boggs researchers out there. Thanks. Lyle Corder
I also have Bascal Hudkins and Nancy Skidmore. Bascal born in about 1785 in Randolph Co. Mancy Skidmore was born on 25 Dec 1785. The daugher of William Hudkins was my grandmother. Does anyone know which Gibson woman married Grover Loving? I believe it was either Ida E. or her sister Ethyl L. They were both daughters of Philip Anderson Gibson and Louisa (Donna) Cart. Thanks, Brenda

G'day Rick If you haven't already come across it, the nook: "History of Braxton County and Central West Virginia" (1919) by John Davison Sutton will be of use to you. There are a large number of biographical sketches in it. It's readily available through Abe Books. http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&tn=History+of+Braxton+County Here's the intro to the Jackson family: "Very early in the settlement of the country, Jesse, Robert and Abraham Jackson came and settled on the Birch. They were the sons of Robert Jackson who lived in Bath Co., Va." The intro to the Skidmore family is six pages long, so I won't re-type it. 'Your' Skidmores and 'mine' are no doubt members of the same family, but the exact nature of the of the connection is not readily apparent without some further digging. Then, I got a connection to a Braxton County site and have received some very helpuful responses to follow up on. As for the question about "George Washington Jackson", I have the list of my direct-lineage from myself back to my Jessee A. The birth-year 1849 you listed for him would fall between my great-great-great-grandfather, Jessee A. and my great-grandfather Taylor Jackson (1866-1962). Jessee A. Jackson (1800-1878) was the son of Robert Jackson (1776-1861) & Mary Gum (1782-1861). Jessee A. married Rebecca J. Skidmore (May 1808 - July 1875) on June 9, 1825 in Nicholas, WV. Rebecca's parents were Andrew Skidmore and Margaret Johnson-Skidmore. Jessee and Rebecca's children were: Robert J. (born 1829), Sylvester (my great-great grandfather, b:1835), David M. I have a nother "possible" son: Hilliard (b:1860) that is only listed for Sylvester one place and that I haven't been able to confirm. Taylor's children were: Granville (my grandfather), Ruie, Addie, and Elvin. That's all I have to offer at this point. The "Molly Skidmore" relationship might be closer than the "Jackson" relationship. Could your "Molly" be a close relative of my "Rebecca Skidmore"? G'day Rick Do you have a George Washington Jackson, born September 1849 of Braxton County in your ancestry? His wife, Susan Margaret Sutton (1854-1947, parents James Sutton and Molly Skidmore) is my 5th cousin 4 times removed, and a descendent of my Sutton ancestors in England. It's the same family that the town of Sutton is named after. George and Susan had at least nine children and I'd like very much to trace the line down to the present day. Those found are: Jessee A. Jackson (born 1800), and father of Sylvester Jackson (born 1835), who was the father of Taylor Jackson (born 1966, and who I remember visiting as a child); Taylor was the father of Granville Jackson who married Beehie Bean (my grandfather and grandmother). If anyone can give me any other details about this family line, especially back before Jessee A. Jackson, it would be greatly appreciated. I and my two living sons are all that remain of this lineage as far as I know. - Rick Jackson 13916 Elm Street Glenpool, Oklahoma 74033 rjxsn@cox.net --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast!
