When you check the original marriage records for Boone County for Oliver's marriage (available on microfilm at the Cultural Center) you will see that the name in the record says Mary E. Jarrell. However, it appears that the clerk just mistakenly copied the last name from the entry above. (Remember, this was January 1 and he may have had a bad New Year's Eve.) The death certificate for Mary's daughter Mary Phebe in Kanawha County on 27 May 1943 gives her mother's name as Epling. Also Mary Epling's brother William had land transactions with Manasseh Byrnside. So the name Jarrell on the marriage record is just a mistake. I'll also be travelling to WV next week and for several weeks after that, so my reponse to message boards will be slow. Thanks for the info. Sharon Meeker, NJ
