Thank you very much, Marlene. I had written "in pencil" that he died before 2012 (his wife's death) probably in Ashford, Boone, WV. The Ashford part I had come up with at the last minute, so to speak. I had figured he was in the Wytheville, VA area when he died, before. I could not find his SS information to save my neck. Oh, for the days when it cost all of $3 for a SSN application photocopy! They were so helpful. For instance, I found my dad spelled our name SOMMERS like the rest of the family when he was a young man, and his employment listing was a Good Humor ice cream truck driver! Thanks, then. I don’t know if anyone local will reply. However I do a lot of long distance research. First their is an ancestral tree for Samuel George Walter. Second in order to find the obit knowing the exact date of death is important According to ancestry SSN records he was born 4 Feb 1921 in Camden, NJ. He died 11 Mar 2001 in Boon, WV. Usually, knowing the exact date of death you can email the county library, boone.lib.wv is their website and there is a contact button there. Many time I have had them send a digital copy for free, although libraries are struggling and you cannot count on it. There is also random acts of genealogical kindness who have volunteers in that area. However, i would try the library first. Marlene D Seaton bugszie@aol.com > On Dec 15, 2018, at 6:31 AM, Vincent E. A close friend of mine died, probably halfway or so through the first decade of the 21st century, say 2005-2008. Not exactly sure! In fact, he moved to the general area from New Jersey due to something I said! Never imagine words are not powerful... Anyway, Samuel George WALTER was born 04 Feb 1921 in New Jersey. I used to see him, rarely, in Roanoke, Virginia. But only recently I found he lived, at least toward the end, in Ashford, WV. His ashes were buried, I was told by his grandson, next to a tree in the backyard. Later, his wife's ashes were spread in the "Peaks of Otter". Can you find an obituary for Sam, however small, even just a date of death for me? He was a grand old fellow! Thanks, Vince Summers

My ggg grandmother was Mary Ward d/o James Ward. She married John Kinder in the early 1800s in what became Boone Co. Is this your line of Wards?
