    3. Re the question "was Holland ever part of Germany?" There are severl things to think about here. The direct answer is yes. Just remember WW2. There were territorial conquests over the centuries. Remember too, many emigrants from Germany departed through Dutch ports; viz Amsterdam. Sometimes they stayed in Holland for several weeks or months before finally embarking. When they arrived in the US they were recorded as having come from Holland.
