    1. [WVBERKEL] Re: WVBERKEL-D Digest V03 #61
    2. Charlotte, I see the Berkeley County reference for Stephen Barns whose will was written 27 July 1784 and probated 18 November 1784. His wife was Martha and his sons were Stephen and George; his daughter was Elizabeth Barns (Will Book 1, page 373). It mentions land purchased from John Hood, but does not say how much (in the extraction). John Hood had a tract of 1175 acres along the Potomac River, west side of Opequon Creek, patented 1735. It was subdivided and sold as several different tracts. There is Stephen Barns, in Ohio County in 1810, which sounds like your gggg grandfather (1767). Have you ruled out the Stephen Barns that is in Frederick County, Virginia? He married Eleanor Scarff 13 January 1807, daughter of John Scarff? He is probably not yours since he is still in Frederick County in 1810 and 1820. Harry
