Jasper Hoed or Hood (fl.1697-1711), of Danish or Dutch lineage, married Cathrina Andries in New York, and they had at least five children. One of these was Jan Hoed or John Hood Sr. (d.1742), who married Rachel Van Bunschoten, and moved from New York to Orange (later Frederick) County, Virginia. Theunis Hoed or Tunis Hood (1719-1797), a son of John and Rachel, married Elizabeth Harrison about 1744 in Augusta (now Rockingham) County, Virginia. They moved to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina about 1772. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas and elsewhere.
