Hi Berkeley People: I have been learning a lot recently about McClearys, and they have led me to the Cookus family. I have Cookuses coming at me from two different directions, and I am trying not only to find a connection between the two families, but find others related to them. All of my Cookuses were in Berkeley and Jefferson Counties, West Virginia. Angelina McCleary, sister of my third great grandfather, John W. McCleary, married Peter H. Cookus Apr 9, 1821. I have gathered the names of their children from census and cemetery records: John T. (or L?), Mary H., Margaret A., Cordelia, Martha, Elizabeth Ellen, and an unnamed daughter. Rachel Louise Snyder, sister of my great grandmother Ella Snyder McCleary, married Joseph Lambright Cookus before 1875. Their children, as listed by a great aunt and confirmed by census records, were Rachel M., Joseph R., Mary L., Ella R., Albert B., and John William Snyder Cookus. Are any of these names familiar to you? I have purchased the books containing obituaries from Berkeley County, and cemetery records from Berkeley and Jefferson Counties. I also have a CD with will abstracts. There are very few matches, and I am running out of resources. Can anyone help? Thanks! Isabel Carter
