    3. Thank you, Harry! Another person also thought it was "Sleepy Creek", and also that there was a fort (or fortified camp) of some sort called Sleepy Creek in 1756 along the creek. This was a time of many Indian raids (some led by French officers) on the Virginia frontier, and many settlers fled to safety in PA or NC - some did not return. This was part of the French and Indian War. Thanks also for the Mendenhall family details. Another site says Aspen Hall built in Martinsburg ca 1776 by Edward Beeson II contains part of a house dates to 1754 built by the Mendenhall family.
