I am unsure where to hunt my husband's ancestor. We have a few old family letters. One written 23 Sept. 1903 to a son of Patrick Garrity, Thomas Garrity, says that "father is dead and has been for 15 years. He died on Good Friday in Martinsburg and was buried there on Easter". This should place his death about 1888. I think there is a Martinsburg in both West Virginia and Pennsylvania. I found this family on the 1880 census in Shepherdstown, Jefferson, West Virginia. They are listed as Patrick, Mary and children Patrick H. born 1870 , Mary b. 1873 and John born 1875. My husbands ancestor, Thomas Garrity, is an older son of Patrick. Thomas was born 26 Aug. 1846. I found the correct Thomas Garrity family on the 1880 census and it states that Thomas was born in N.J. I wonder if Patrick was married before Mary and perhaps had Thomas and Margaret. Family stories say Patrick (Garroughty) Garrity came to America from Ireland as an indentured servant. I have not been able to find boat papers. There are MANY with the name of Patrick Garrity. I would greatly appreciate any info or suggestions from this group. Eunice in OK
