Does anyone have any info that links William and Sallie Pain Butt to the Butt family of Buttstown? All the researchers I've talked to can't link William with Richard Butt, one of the first in the county. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Linda

There were Mankins in Loudoun Co., Virginia. Before 1801 when Jefferson Co. was created, Loudoun and Berkeley shared a border. I believe the earlier Mankins came from Maryland. I am searching for Thomas and John Champion (probably brothers, perhaps uncle and nephew or cousins) whom we believe were in Berkeley Co or thereabouts before they made the l790 census in Mercer Co KY. I wonder if someone could view the original marriage record of an "Ann Cannon" to a "Thomas Cumpsion" which I believe could well be CHampion in Berkeley Co on 15 Oct l788. I have looked long and hard at the 29 Sept 1777 Berkeley Co will of Joseph Champion (wife Rosannah_______), brothers John, James, and Thomas Champion. Also mentioned are Edward Rawlings, son of Stephen Rawlings; Ruth Stephenson, daughter of Richard Stephenson. The will was executed 21 April l778. Witnesses of the will were George Jenkins, Robert Dunn, and John Champion An Edmund Champion is the bondsman to the marriage of Elizabeth Davis to Daniel Gilland in Berkeley Co, VA, bond 23 Sept l797; marriage 26 Sept l797. Edmond Champion turns up on the l6 August l800 Bullitt Co KY Tax list. Edmund Champion in Mercer Co, KY, on l0 May l805, marries Sarah Nield/Neald "of PA". Her guardian is Augustine Passamore. My cousins and I have tried to connect these dots, but proof we do not have. Do any of these names or dates ring any bells with anyone in Berkeley CO? The Champions and Cannons seem to be connected with the family names of Davis and Mankin. Edward and Mary __________ Davis live next to the families of John and Thomas Champion, and by l800 have loaned them money to buy land next to them in Washington CO, KY. Thomas and "Nancy" Cannon Champion name two sons DAVIS and MANKIN. We find that MANKIN name very odd, but it would be carried along two more generations. Does that name connect to anyone in Berkeley CO? We would most appreciate any help and would be glad to trade information or further your research in KY. Sincerely, Jane Champion Norman

Hi, I am looking for the family of Robert Cannon and Elizabeth ?. My records indicate that the family was in Berkeley, Co., VA. on 1788, when their daughter Martha Ann (Nancy) Cannon and Thomas Champion were married. The marrieg is listed as Thomas Cumpsion and Ann Cannon married 15 Oct. 1788 in Berkeley, Co., Va.., on FTM CD #229 Marriage Index: KY, NC, TN, VA, WV, 1728-1850. They could have been there as early as 1768. I have the family in Washington and Mercer Co., Ky about 1800. Any help at this time will help. Richard Swank in California
I am completely new at researching in West Virginia. I'm specifically focusing my search in Martinsburg, where both my great and great great grandfathers lived. My gg grandfather, Lewis GRIMM died in 1892. Were death certificates issued at that time? I'm also searching for his grave. Lewis Grimm's daughter Anna married Adolph KOGELSCHATZ. He was a funeral director and I'm told there is still a Kogelschatz funeral home in Martinsburg. Does anyone happen to know if there are Kogelschatz family members still associated with this funeral home? I appreciate any help or direction that can be passed my way on researching this part of the United States! Susan Curelop GRIMM, Lewis, Henry, and Anna KOGELSCHATZ, Adolph/Adolphus
