    2. Young, Bob
    3. I have been researching The Rimel Family Tree and have traced it back to Berkeley County, West Virginia/Virginia. Since I live in Pennsylvania all of this has been via email/snail mail/internet. I had an excellent hit with the 1880 1% Sample Census listing: BERKELEY, WV Enum. Dist. 9 Reel 1400 Page 143 Date: 06/01 -- RIMEL, PHILIP W M 46 Head RIMEL(nee JOY), SUSAN S W F 29 Wife RIMEL, GEORGE W W M 15 Child RIMEL, CHARLES L W M 11 Child RIMEL, MANALKER L W M 9 Child (Name is actually Mannalcus) RIMEL, ALICE E W F 4 Child RIMEL, LAURA R W F 2 Child RIMEL, UNNAMED W F 0 Child I later found that Philip's (1834 - 1904) parents are William Rimel and Jennie Smith. These would be my 3rd Great Grandparents. I also know Philip's 1st wife was Ruthy Ann Miller 1838 - 1872. The Rimel Family eventually moved to Chester County, Pennsylvania. Is there anyone who might be researching the RIMELs as well? Thank you. Bob Young [email protected]

    1. [WVBERKEL] Lena Freeze
    2. To Bob Longbottom, You perhaps have tried this, but my first thought would be to look for a birth record for Lena Freeze, in Berkeley County. Of course, if she was born in Ohio, that is more difficult, not knowing the county. I'm wondering if she was orphaned because her parents died. I do see the Samuel (29) and Josephine (26) Freeze family in Martinsburg in the 1880 census. This Samuel Freeze died in 1909, so that might fit the logic (of Lena being orphaned in 1910 census). What do you think? Where did Joseph and Lena Snyder live (where buried)? BTW, I have Jacob (1732 to 1790) and Margaret Snyder in my data base, with 10 children, but information on son, Abraham and Catherine (Miller) Snyder, only. Harry Grossman

    1. [WVBERKEL] Re: FREEZE FAMILY BRICK WALL
    2. Hello List, I am at wits end on finding the ancestors of my Grandmother Lena FREEZE Lena is first found in the May 10th 1910 Census in Hedgesville District of Berkeley Co., West Va. living in the home of Robert S Noll and is listed as 10 years old birth place unknown with both parents listed as being born in West Virginia. It states she is from the ORPHAN'S HOME. She is next recorded as a servant in the home of Robert S Noll in Hedgesville District in Berkeley Co., West Va. on January 20, 1920 and is listed as being born in Ohio. Birth place of parents was crossed out. Assuming the Census Data is correct, where can one find records from the Berkeley County Orphans Home in the time frame of 1900 to 1920? Any help in the way of ideas or suggestions would certainly be appreciated. In 1920 Lena married my Grandfather Joseph Snyder, who was the great grandson of Jacob Snider 1732-1790 of Back Creek, Berkeley County West Va. Thanks, Robert (Bob) Longbottom Mogadore, Ohio

    1. [WVBERKEL] Butt(s)
    2. Linda, Looks like this was a very large family, even pre 1800. I have looked for a link between William Butt who married Sallie Pain/Payne 19 November 1812, and Richard Butt who died 1799 in Berkeley County. My working supposition is that William Butt (married 19 November 1812) is the son of William Butt, Sr. who married Darke/Darky Butt, the daughter of Richard Butt (died 1799). William Butt married Darky Butt on 20 April 1786 in Berkeley County. It looks like William Butt, the elder had sons, Charles, Henry, and William. The estate sale for Joseph Butt, son of Richard Butt dec'd, took place 17 March 1800. William Butt is one of the names mentioned (his wife, Darky, would be Joseph's sister). The estate sale for Richard Butt, 25 February 1803, names William Butt. Again, this seems to fit with him (William) being the husband of Richard's daughter, Darky. But, so far this does not tell us how William Butt is related to Richard Butt (other than by marriage to Darky), though it seems likely. Does this fit with what you have? Harry
