    1. Obituaries
    2. Bob Young
    3. I would like to locate an obituary for: Philip F. Rimel 1/26/1834 - 2/21/1911 He was born in VA but lived much of his life around the Martinsburg area and spent the last few years of his life in Chester County, PA. Next to his tombstone is a Bronze GAR flag holder but I have not been able to prove why it is there. I have the obituary from the Chester County, PA newspaper but it does not indicate any military service. I have found a Philip F. Rimel serving in the the 58th VA Militia but that would not support the GAR affiliation. I was hoping that an obituary was placed in a Martinsburg area newspaper because of his connection to the area. Would anyone have any address to which I could request this obituary lookup? 1. [WVBERKEL] Engle and Beyele
    2. Gayla McCluskey
    3. I am researching my wife's Engle and Beyerle ancestors and seeking documentation for the following:. Melchior Engle and his wife, Mary Magdelena (Beyerle), left Lancaster CO, PA, in the late 1750's and settled in Shepherdstown, Berkeley CO, (West) VA. Traveling with them were Melchior's father-in-law, Johann/Hans/John Michael Beyerle and Michael's (2nd) wife, K(C)atherine Beyerle. It is believed that K(C)atherine died about 1757 in Frederick CO, (West) VA, and that Michael Beyerle married (3rd) Eve Cheek. Michael Beyerle is believed to have died in Shepherdstown about 1788. Melchior Engle in question is believed to be the same Melchior Engle who died in Winchester, Frederick CO, (West) VA in 1760. I have Engle WSH, The Melchor Engle Family History and Genealogy: 1730-1940, privately published by W. S. H. Engle, Lima, OH, 1940; but understand there is another genealogy I do not have access to published in 1906, "A History of the Engle Family of the Shenandoah Valley and Family Connections", privately published, 1906. James M. Engle (b. 1854).

    1. [WVBERKEL] Robert Lott
    2. Pat for short
    3. I am trying to trace the family of the Robert Lott mentioned in the two articles below. I don't know what happened to Robert Lott after he shot John Kennedy, but by 1792 Hannah Lott had applied for guardianship of his orphan children. Was Hannah Lott his wife? I believe the Thomas Gassrway (sic) and Nicholas Cassaway(sic) were Hannah Gassaway's brothers. There is a marriage record in Berkeley Co for a Richard Lott and a Hannah Gassaway. There are also several Lott families listed in the Reconstructed Census of Berkeley Co, but by 1800 they are all gone. My questions are: What happened to Robert Lott?- was he tried for murder? If he was tried, would the records of the trial still be available in the court house. If he died is there somewhere I might look for his death record? I found no other mention of him in the newspapers of that time. Who was Hannah Lott and what happened to her and the orphans of Robert Lott? Did she remarry? Virginia Gazette, or, The Winchester Advertiser - Died - Mr. John Kennedy, killed by Mr. Robert Lott one day last week as he attempted to serve an order on Lott (p3, c3) - Wednesday, July 15, 1789 from the Henley Marriage & Obituary Database: Catalog card; The Library Of Virginia Film 283 BERKELEY COUNTY, VA GUARDIAN BONDS; VA GENEALOGIST DISC 4:61 Hannah (x) Lott, guardian of Mary Lott, Mathew Lott, Hannah Lott, Elizabeth Lott and Robert Lott orphans of Robert Lott 18 Dec 1792 for 500 pounds. 1. Re: [WVBERKEL] Death and Burial infor.
    2. Sharon, It is a transcription of the cemetery records from a particular cemetery or cemeteries in a certain geographic area. The one that I am referring to is the one published by the Berkeley County Historical Society titled "Cemeteries of Martinsburg and Berkeley County, West Virginia. They may be contacted at: Berkeley County Historical Society P. O. Box 1624 Martinsburg, WV 25402 You will want to visit their web page at: http://www.bchs.org If you have extensive research in that area, you may want to consider joining this society as they offer a great newsletter and lots of publications for sale that you would find helpful. I have been a member for quite a few years and find this group to be extremely helpful as I live a thousand miles away in Florida. Personally, as a genealogical teacher/instructor, one of the first things I recommend to students is to join a genealogical and/or historical society in the prime areas of your research, it is well worth the few dollars a year! Sincerely, Ann Ann Mohr Osisek Maitland, FL > Ann, > > I am very curious on what a cemetery extract book is, where do I get one? > > Thanks for any info! > Sharon > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Thursday, January 15, 2004 9:14 AM > Subject: Re: [WVBERKEL] Death and Burial infor. > > > > All- > > Would she be talking about Green Hill Cemetery or Rosedale Cemetery, I > have > > the cemetery extract book and have been to Martinsburg many times to do > > cemetery research but never heard of Rose Hill Cemetery, am I correct? > > Perhaps there is something incorrect in family information. 3. Search for Geo W Clark My gr-gr-grandfather (George W Clark b: about 1832) married Mary Ellen McDonald in Martinsburg in about 1858. Mary Ellen's parents (George and Ann McDonald) is in the 1850 Census with children Susan b: about 1835, Mary Ellen b: 1836, Ann Elizabeth b: 1838, William b: about 1841 and Priscilla b: about 1843. George W Clark was a carpenter. He and Mary Ellen had 2 children born in Martinsburg. Lilly F b: 16 December 1858 and John William b: 31 December 1860. Others were born in Maryland. I need information about George W. I don't know where he was born (one census says Maryland and others say Virginia) or who his ancestors were. Mary Ellen and the 2 children were baptised at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Martinsburg. I presumed they were Married at St Josephs Church but their ewcords are incomplete due to the Civil War. They migrated to western Maryland (Allegany County) during the Civil War. Thanks Leon Clark
