    1. Samuel Wright and Susanna Melvin
    2. D & J
    3. Samuel Wright was born about 1757; he married Susanna Melvin in Berkeley Co., VA 28 Sept. 1785, and he and Susanna lived in Jefferson Co., VA in 1810. I believe he is the same Samuel Wright who was a lawyer in Berkeley County, VA before Jefferson branched off from Berkeley. Samuel Wright died July 6, 1818, aged 61 years, and Susanna (Susan) died May 31, 1825, aged 63 years. They are both buried on Altona, the Davenport Farm, in Jefferson County, WV. Other Wrights buried close to them are : Wright, Henry Clay - son of Samuel and Martha Wright - d. Jan. 23, 1832, aged 1 yr. 7 mo. 15 da. Wright, John William - son of Samuel and Mary Wright - d. Mar. 1, 1830, aged 2 yrs, 8 mo. 19 da. Wright, Susan - dau. of Samuel and Mary Wright - d. Sept. 9, 1825, aged 2 mo. 6 days. Can you tell me who Samuel Wright's parents were and where he was born? Did he have any siblings?

    1. James and Hannah GLENN, John WRIGHT; Frederick/Berkeley Cos., VA
    2. D & J
    3. I am looking for any information on the James GLENN who died in Frederick County, Virginia between 1753-1755. In his will, James states his wife Hannah was to receive half of all goods and chattels, and his son William was to receive half of the land. Should his wife and son die then his estate was to go to John WRIGHT'S first born. It appears the John WRIGHT mentioned in the will married Hannah GLENN before 1760 as John received a land grant in Frederick Co., VA near the Potomac River, and Hannah was said to be his wife. I also found mention of this John and Hannah in Chaulkey's Scotch-Irish Records wherein it states John and Hannah had no children together, but John gave a gift of land to Hannah's Glenn grandchildren. He lived in the area of Frederick County that branched off into Berkeley County. Who was this James GLENN and wife Hannah? Does anyone know what happened to John WRIGHT and Hannah after John received his land grant?

    1. Patrick Garrity b. about 1820 in Ireland
    2. Terry & Eunice
    3. I am unsure where to hunt my husband's ancestor. We have a few old family letters. One written 23 Sept. 1903 to a son of Patrick Garrity, Thomas Garrity, says that "father is dead and has been for 15 years. He died on Good Friday in Martinsburg and was buried there on Easter". This should place his death about 1888. I think there is a Martinsburg in both West Virginia and Pennsylvania. I found this family on the 1880 census in Shepherdstown, Jefferson, West Virginia. They are listed as Patrick, Mary and children Patrick H. born 1870 , Mary b. 1873 and John born 1875. My husbands ancestor, Thomas Garrity, is an older son of Patrick. Thomas was born 26 Aug. 1846. I found the correct Thomas Garrity family on the 1880 census and it states that Thomas was born in N.J. I wonder if Patrick was married before Mary and perhaps had Thomas and Margaret. Family stories say Patrick (Garroughty) Garrity came to America from Ireland as an indentured servant. I have not been able to find boat papers. There are MANY with the name of Patrick Garrity. I would greatly appreciate any info or suggestions from this group. Eunice in OK

    1. Flu epidemic of 1918
    2. Karen Hangsleben
    3. Anybody out there got a copy of the journal of WV History vol 38 (1976-77)? I understand there is an article regarding the flu epidemic entitled "A WV County's experience with the 1918 Influenza Epidemic". Supposedly the county is Berkeley. Might there be a published list of fatalities? I have learned that twin boys of an Edward and Mary Custer O'Neal died in Martinsburg during this epidemic. The family has forgotten their names and I've made it my business to remember them. Thanks for any help/suggestions. Karen Nelson Hangsleben

    1. CREAMER, BUCK, AVIS, DARKE
    2. Hello, I'm seeking any and all info about the family of Joseph D. CREAMER b. abt. 1780 who married Elizabeth AVIS (dau of Robert AVIS and Martha DARKE) some time before 1809, probably in Virginia. Joseph died (I think) in Virginia before 1830. He and Elizabeth had at least three children, two sons Joseph Darke and Robert Charles, as well as a daughter named Frances. I do not know anything about Joseph's parents or siblings, nor do I know whether they were English/Irish Creamers or German KREAMER/KRAMERs. Martha DARKE was apparently related to General William DARKE, but I'm not sure if she was his daughter, his sister or his first wife. (My current thinking is that they were brother and sister.) Joseph and Elizabeth's son Joseph Darke CREAMER married Mary Elnor BUCK in Harpers Ferry, VA (now WV) in 1833. She was b. 1817 in Shepherdstown, VA and was the dau of Henry BUCK and Hannah RAPP (or ROBB), who may have been married first to Henry FIZER. The Creamer family moved to Clark Co, OH some time between March of 1834, when their eldest daughter Martha Ellen was born in Harpers Ferry, and February of 1836, when their next daughter Susanna C was born in Ohio. They also had six other children: Henry, Mary Elizabeth, Joseph Franklin and Josephine (twins), and Charles Milton and James Florince (twins.) Henry and Joseph eventually ended up in Tacoma, WA and James (my great grandfather) migrated to Indiana. The others all stayed in Ohio, mostly in Clark and Champaign Counties. Martha Ellen CREAMER b. Mar 1834 in VA, married John Wesley WILKINSON in 1852 in Clark Co, OH Susanna C CREAMER b. Feb 1836 in OH, married Nathan L NEER in 1859 in OH Henry C VanBuren CREAMER b. Mar 1839 in OH, married Sophronia STACEY in 1867 in Champaign Co, OH and then Mary Gertrude (LNU) in 1876 Mary Elizabeth CREAMER b. Mar 1846 in OH, married John D HUNT after 1880, probably in OH Joseph Franklin CREAMER b. Jun 1849 in OH, apparently never married (??) Josephine CREAMER b. Jun 1849 in OH, died a week after she and Joseph were born Charles Milton CREAMER b. Mar 1854 in OH, died at the age of 18 in Clark Co, OH. Unmarried. James Florince CREAMER b. Mar 1854 in OH, married Olie (LNU) before 1880 in OH, then Elizabeth Mary SEHI in 1886 in Connersville, IN I have lots of descendent info and would love to share. I'll be grateful for any help! 1. Morrison, Lyle, McLaughlin families
    2. Boyd Holley Farms
    3. I am researching a James Morrison supposedly from Berkley Co, VA, now West Virginia, who ended up in Louisiana in the 1790s. James Morrison was married to Anne Lyle and had children, Marie, Sarah, Ann, Nancy, Jane, and James (jr). Daughter Sarah Morrison married, 27 May 1788 James McLaughlin in Berkley Co, and also lived the remainder of her life in Louisiana. James Morrison from Virginia had a second set of children with Mary McCagg(?). (John, Elizabeth, Nancy Margaret, and Daniel) I don't know if she was from Virginia or not. However, I do know that wife, Anne Lyle and children from first marriage followed James Morrison to Louisiana where Mary McCagg and second set of children were living. Have found evidence that both sets of children interacted with each other as adults as witnesses, etc. in legal documentation. Do you have any knowledge of this James McLaughlin and wife, Sarah Morrison? I believe this James McLaughlin who lived the remainder of his life in Louisiana was the son of James McLaughlin and Margaret Christy. James McLaughlin and wife Sarah Morrison had several children baptised in Louisiana territory and these grandparents were mentioned. thank you, Susan Holley [email protected]

    1. Kilmer family of 1800's
    2. I am new to this list. I am hoping to reach someone with info on the Kilmers of Berkeley Co. My great grandfather was George Kilmer, born 1847 in Botetourt Co.,VA. According to his marriage and death certificates, his parents, both born in VA, were John and Margaret Cupp Kilmer. Even though there was a Kilmer family in Botetourt Co., John doesn't seem to be directly related to them. I have no other info on John; he had either died or abandoned his family by 1850. He was never listed as head of household in the census. I can't find a marriage record for John and Margaret, either. If anyone has info on these people, please contact me. Thanks, Karen Williamsburg,VA

I've not done any original research on this family so cannot vouch for accuracy. I'm supposedly descended from son Thomas Wright. I do know that these folks were in Frederick-Berkeley Co area of VA/WV in the late 18th-early 19th centuries. Most of my folks, Quakers, went on to Highland Co, OH and eventually to Linn Co, IA. They intermarried with Adams and Walns also from same area in old Frederick Co. I would be interested to see what you have for other Wrights in same area.
