Please note that I made a mistake on my previous posting. "John eager", son of robert, was born in 1765, not 1865. Sorry. George of Austin
These are my direct line ancestors as follows: Hazel Louise Eager who was born in Bell Co., Tx. Is my mother; Thomas Patton Eager who was born in Navarro Co., texas was her father; John Thomas eager who was born in Drew Co., Ar. Was his father; John ronemus Eager who was born in Louisa (Jefferson) Co., W. Va. Was his father; John Eager who was probably born in what is now Berkeley Co, W. Va. Around 1865 was his father; and, the Robert Eager (probably John Robert Eager) named in the attached pension record was his father. I attach the abstracted information as recorded information to show that Robert Eager lived in Berkeley County at the time of his enlistment. Please see the following message re. "Enlistment record".Betty and Robert eager Soldiers of Berkely County, West Virginia William and Mary College Quarterly, Volume 13, No. 1, page 403(book 35?), . At a court held for Berkeley County, west Virginia on the 20th day of April, 1779, reads as follows: "Betty Eager, wife of Robert Eager, a soldier in the Continental Service, be allowed 50 pounds for her support for the present." http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb

Aften, Your message asked:"Does anyone know how to obtain cemetery records for the towns between Martinsburg WV and Williamsport MD? I have the records for Maryland but have not been able to find any for West Virginia" Berkeley County Historical Society has a book that they published awhile back that lists the cemeteries in the county. Are in the process of updating it. What cemeteries are you looking for and for whom are you looking for? I have a copy at home, so I could look the people up. Mollie Seibert Ziegler

For those interested, this year's Berkeley Journal, published by the Berkeley County Historical Society, will be titled "The Civil War in Bunker Hill, Gerrardstown and Darkesville." If you are a member of BCHS, you will get a copy as a benefit of membership. If not, the book should be available to give (or receive) as a Christmas gift and can be purchased through BCHS http://www.bchs.org The 2000 Berkeley Journal, "The Civil War in Berkeley County," has been reprinted and is available now from BCHS. Also the current issue of Blue & Gray magazine features a very nice article about the Battle of Falling Waters in northern Berkeley County, written by BCHS's Gary Gimbel. Another useful option for non-circulating books is that most libraries are willing to photocopy a certain number of pages or the index (in my experience, usually for no charge) for you. This would probably not be the best option in this case, since it sounds like the whole book is about your family--but I recently had good luck ordering a Bonham family genealogy which is quite rare and does not circulate. The library that owned it was willing to lend it if it was restricted to in-library use--I couldn't take it out of the main library here in Omaha. Of course I was grateful to see it at all! So it's always worth trying. Sometimes one is pleasantly surprised! Good luck, Martha Grenzeback [email protected] At 12:21 AM 9/8/2005 -0500, Ruth L. Not only do the reference materials not leave the building but a document I need...... is in the vault, and even if I went there, I am not allowed to get a copy of it. They will not under any circumstances copy the pages/documents. The only way I can see it is if the gentleman there that I spoke with goes in with me, he is the only one that is physically able to touch the book. I can hand write/copy the document but that is it. I don't understand why this is allowed to be. At some point that book will no longer be available to even do that. Why is this stuff not copied and put into Will Books, Deed Books, etc and/or microfilm etc before something happens to it.
My experience with trying to get genealogy books via interlibrary loan is that almost all are in the reference department of the libraries that have copies, and reference books do not circulate (or leave the library for any reason). I did get one county history via interlibrary loan a number of years ago, so there is a chance. Hello Ruth, Thought you would like to know that the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City does have the book you referenced. Since this hasn't been filmed you would have to go to Salt Lake City for it; but another option would be to request it by interlibrary loan, through your local library. I did a search for it in WorldCat (library database), and there are 44 libraries in the country that have a copy of it: The Tunis Hood family: its lineage and traditions. Dellmann Osborne Hood 1960 [1st ed.] English []Book 602 p. illus. 23 cm. Portland, Or., Metropolitan Press I have gotten some amazing resources through interlibrary loan.
