We have an interesting puzzle here. So far, I don't have any other information on any Elmore REED other than this marriage to Phoebe REED, daughter of Josiah REED, Sr. I have no idea as to his parents or even his birthdate, other than his age given at the time of this marriage being 21 (or born c. 1859). Elmore (whichever or both) is/are probably descended from a REED line other than Josiah. Have you documented his parents yet? You might take a look at Gib REED's post of March 18, 1999 for lines of possible siblings of Josiah REED. I presume when you say you "know" the facts presented as to the descendants of your gr-grandfather, Elmore Vincent REED, that you have soundly documented those facts with primary evidence (birth, death, marriage records, etc.) every step of the way. If not, you might want to go back and do so. I just recently sent for the birth certificate of my husband's grandmother "Anna", who just died last month and who's birthday "everybody always knew" was 1 April 1912. I got back the birth certificate for her sister "Mary", who was supposedly born 10 years later according to the family! I've also found under other surnames cases where someone was called by one name but were in fact named otherwise! Believe me, it pays to document it all. It isn't all that unusual for more than one cousin to have shared the same first name, and that could be the case here. As I mentioned before, there's also always the possibility of errors occurring when someone else does a lookup and transcribes the information. There's also a possibility of an error in the reference book itself, as it's information was transcribed from the County records. Again, the best bet is to go as much as close as possible to original primary sources. Can anyone else out there shed more light on Elmore REED?
