    3. Welcome! I'd like to send this more personal welcome to you who have subscribed to the Barbour County discussion list. The automatically generated one that you have already received gives you the technical directions but probably makes you feel as if a machine were greeting you. Though it is suggested to new list subscribers to lurk (read without posting) and see how the discussion is going before jumping in I'd say forget it this time and write a short introduction to tell us what families you are researching or just a little about yourself. A little about me If you have visited the Barbour County Genealogy web page you may recognize me as the page manager. After looking at what others in the USGenWeb Project were doing for counties around the USA I knew I had to get involved. It has been the perfect way to expand on several of my interests which are genealogy, history, computers, research and writing. A special bonus has been the opportunity to meet people like yourselves. I've always liked "old things" and have some fond memories of visiting my grandparents' farm in Lewis County, exploring the past that was still there, stored in the trunks in the summer kitchen and the little graveyard on the hill. About ten years ago my mother received a package of papers on the family history which had been left by her brother. Getting an unfinished work was too much of a temptation for me to resist so I have been at it ever since, verifying, adding, eliminating and enjoying it thoroughly. My Reger, Lorentz, Martin, Wood, Forinash and related families were in Barbour or nearby from the late 18th century. Some came over from the South Branch in Hardy County, others from Fauquier/Culpeper County, Pendleton County and some from places yet to be discovered. I look forward to hearing from you all and sharing your interests in genealogy, history and Barbour County. Thanks for signing on, Margaret C.
