In 1992 I found an article HISTORY OF THE GAINER FAMILY by W.S. Lang, undated, in the Belington Public Library. It includes the following (no dates given): Daniel GAINER m. Rachel MATHEW, d/o Isaac MATHEW. Daniel was s/o George W. GAINER and Phoebe SCHOONOVER (they lived near the present location of Montrose). Celia M. GAINER m. as her first husband Eugenus D. MATHEW (her second husband was Berkley D. Phillips). Celia was d/o George E. GAINER and Mary Jane HARRIS. George E. was s/o George W. GAINER and Phoebe SCHOONOVER. My notes on the MATHEW family show that Rachel was b. abt 1832, and Eugenius/Eugenus s/o Isaac MATHEW was b. abt 1842. I did not find Eugenius in Barbour Co. after 1860. Does anyone know of proof of the two GAINER/MATHEW marriages above? Is the lineage correct for the GAINERs? Thanks, Brenda
