My great-grandmother was Rachel Howell, who was born in 1850 at the Howell homestead in Barbour County. She married James W. Poling on 9 December 1869. Her parents were Nehemiah Howell and Rebecca Limbers Howell. Can anyone tell me the names of her siblings or anything about the family? Where was the "Howell homestead?" Anything would be appreciated.

We just last week got a right-of-way from Westvaco to property inherited from the family on a mountain above Junior, WV. It's been in the family since the mid 1800's when Junior was called Row Town. I'm not sure where the connection is but I'm searching the ROW line. Benjamin ROW married to Sarah (RINEHART). He was born l808 and died l879. He lived in Luray, Page Co., Va. in the l830's. He had a grist mill, mill dam and home on the south branch of the Shenandoah River at Newport. A devistating flood in the mid 1840's wiped out everything and they sold the land. They settled along the Tygart River in newly formed Barbour County, Virgina (later West Va.) where he built a new mill and named the place Rowtown (renamed Junior in 1897). He had a son, Andrew J. B., b. 08, Aug. l834 /d.l905 (he had 11 children) dau, Mary Ann (Viquesney) dau, Julia Ann (Williams) dau, Polly Ann (Latham) Some of this was found in "The Inter-Mountain Family" newspaper Aug. 2nd l997 edition and some from family histories. I would like to know more about where Benjamin came from and who his parents were. I have a photo taken at a family gathering the summer of about 1920 at the Visquesney Roller Skating Rink in Junior, WV. There are 42 people on the porch with many ROWs, SHOMOs, and CORRICKs. There were also one or more RYDER, THORN, POWLEY, CROSS,DEAN, RIGHT(?),BURKE(?), HILLYARD,MCNEMAR (?), GOGERTY(?), MARTIN, SPAID,FOY, and a Pearl HAYES ROW. Is Pearl the connection? Recently I made an effort to tie together the descendants of Aaron Duckworth that came from Maryland into Barbour and a few others in Calhoun. Do you have any of this documented? Aaron Duckworth is mentioned in the Tatterson Poling Book in reference to a transaction involving Peter Poling and Aaron Duckworth in and slightly before 1805. Apparently a joint purchase of land on Elk Creek, for which Peter and wife Hannah were granting their interest back to Aaron. I have no idea whethe the earlier Aaron ever came to either the Harrison or Barbour areas. It appears that the Duckworth settlements here were about 1830-1840.
