Nestorville is at the very southern edge of Cove District (or Township). In 1822 Nestorville was in Randolph county of Virginia. The Stemples of the Barbour area all came from Preston county (up in corner next to western panhandle of Maryland. Aurora was the initial settlement site of these Stemples (Godfrey, Gotfried). Several came through Randolph (which in part became part of Barbour in 1843. Some are still here, but many continued on westward. I believe Isaac, William, Samuel and Adam were the four than stayed and left some descendants. Eugene Richman lives next door to me. Not sure of the mail route, but they get their main at the post office in Philippi. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mary Hitt <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, October 03, 1999 7:09 PM Subject: Re: Nestorville and related places ... > > > Subj: Re: Nestorville and related places ... > Date: 10/2/99 4:10:48 PM Eastern Daylight Time > From: MaryHitt > To: [email protected], [email protected] > > In a message dated 9/6/99 2:53:16 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > [email protected] writes: > > << I have an ancestor: Daniel RICHMON, b. 1822 in Nestorville. > What VA county was Nestorville in at that time? > > He had a brother Jesse I. or L., who in later life called himself > RIGHMAN, b. ca. 1824??? > There's a marriage record floating around that a Jesse RIGHMAN married > an Anna Maria STEMPLE whose family was from Aurora, WV. Barbour Democrat Thursday February 19, 1920 Page 1 Mrs. Harry Nestor-- On every hand sorrow is expressed at the passing of Mrs. Harry Nestor, of this place. She lived but a week after being attacked by influenza which was followed by pneumonia, her death occurring on Sunday night, at the home of her father, Wesley Bennett on Walnut Street. The deceased was 20 years old, and married at the age of 17 years. A short time after the marriage her husband was called to the war and was a member of the 313th Field Artillery doing valiant service in France. After his return, they began house keeping on High Street, and with their little boy formed a most happy family. Mrs. Nestor had scores of friends not only in Philippi but elsewhere. Her patient waiting with her child, for the return of her husband from France had drawn everyone to her. Even in those long dreary days of anxiety, she always had a smile for everyone. She was a real Christian, a member of the U. B. Church and active in Christian work. Her life was short, has been a real blessing to all who knew her. Her husband and little son, her parents and all near relatives, have unreserved sympathy in their trying bereavement.
Barbour Democrat Thursday February 19, 1920 Page 1 Della Moats-- On Monday evening, February 9th the death Angle visited the home of Arthur Moats in North Philippi and took away his daughter Della Moats. Della was 18 years, 5 months, and 2 days old and was loved by all. The writer has known her for nine years and has always found her a true and faithful girl. Della will be missed by all her neighbors, as she was loved by all and was always willing to help any of them during sickness or in need. She was a member of the eighth grade class of the Public schools, and will be missed by the members of her class and her teacher. Della will be missed by her classmates and friends, but no one but those who have lost a daughter or a sister will know how she is missed at home. Altho her friends and relatives will mourn for her, we should realize that it will be only a short time until we see her smiling face again in the world with our heavenly Father, where there will be so sorrow or tears. John, Most of what I have came from other Grandon researchers, or from census records. 1. My father was William Ayers; 2. His parents were Moses Ayers and Verona Grim 3. Verona Grim was the daughter of David Crocket Grim of Greene Co., PA 4. David was the son of John Grim and Jane Grandon Jane was the sister of your Eleanor (Grandon) McCullough. 5. They were daughters of William and Rebecca (?) GRANDON. 6. William was the son of 7. Edward GRANDON (1740-50-) wife not found. William was born about 1775, and married Rebecca. They were the parents of 8 known children. Eleanor born between 1800-1815, married Joseph McCullough. The William Grandon family was in Greene Co., PA until sometime between 1830-1840 when they apparently crossed into what is now WV. The death record for William's wife, Rebecca, was found in Pleasants Co., VA/WV. She died 17 Jan 1860, and her birthplace was given as Ireland or PA. This is all I can find on this family right now, but I know I exchanged messages with a couple of people either on the Greene Co., PA or Grim/Grimm lists about the McCullough connection. If I find them, do you want the names? Twice within the last year or so, Juno has deleted all my saved messages and addresses, but I should have hard copies in one of my piles. Good hunting. Dear Aaron: I sure hope you can help me with these families. Here is what we have: We have, what we think, are three Righman brothers; Jesse, Daniel and Levi who were in Barbour Co, VA/WV, probably about 1840 or so. Jesse was born ca1823; Levi born ca 1824 and Daniel , ca1822. Jesse Righman stayed in Barbour and died in an accident in 1878.His death record says he was born in Hardy Co, VA/WV. He married a Stemple. Levi Righman was in Barbour Co in 1850, Taylor Co, WV in 1870.He married a Nestor. He is buried in Franklin Co, NE. I have not been able to find Daniel Righman b ca1822 in Barbour Co records. He died in 1899 in Bumont, Butler Co, Iowa. The obit says he was born in Nestorsville, WV. This is where Jesse lived. We know that Jesse was definately a brother to Daniel. Now for Hardy Co connection: The 1850 census for Hardy Co, VA/WV lists a Daniel Righman 53, wife Lydia, children; Peter, Henry, Ann, Abraham, Magdaline, Susanna, Barbara, and George M.Living nearby are Barbara Richman 35, Henry 17. Also nearby are; Levi Richman 26 and wife Eve 22. THIS DANIEL LOOKS LIKE A POSSIBLE FATHER FOR THE THREE BOYS, Daniel, Levi and Jesse. He could be an uncle. Now,,,,about Hershman...A lady who currently lives in Nestorsville, Louise Righman, has done some work on the family and says that Jesse Righman, her husband's ancestor, was raised by the Dr. Abraham Hershman, b 1813, who went from Hardy to Barbour Co about 1840 , about the time I think the Righmans did. Dr. Hershman is not really old enough to have taken in young Righman boys, so, perhaps one or more of them just lived with him and his wife. Or, I notice that a number of Hisghman families lived near the senior Daniel Righman in 1850 in Hardy. Perhaps one or more of the Righman boys had been living with the parents of Dr. Hershman in Hardy. I have the book FOOTSTEPS OF OUR FATHERS, TACY, WV by Coffman and Stemple and several other books on Barbour Co, including census and marriage, death records. So, that is where I am in this research I am doing for a lady in CA. He husband is a Righman, descendant of Daniel Righman. I do not charge for my help, I have lots of families in Barbour and have worked with a lot of names there; Cole, Corder, Lough, Patton, Ingram, Hudkins, Euritt and many more. I have kind of adopted the Barbour area and try to learn all I can. I live about 35 minutes from Nestorsville in Bridgeport, WV. This is a long email, I sure hope you can shed some lite on these families.....Thanks....Lyle Corder

John, I have very little on the McCullough line, but have some information on the Grandon family. Jane Grandon, sister of Eleanor, was one of my great great grandmothers. I am John Ciolina, Doing genealogy research for my wife, Denyce Marie Hines-Mccullough. Her line is Joseph Mccullough m. Eleanora Grandon. and Daniel Hines m Louraine. I have a Canada Mccullough, McColloch, Mc Ollogh etc that is supposed to be the father of Joseph but have no proof. Have James Columbus Findley as Columbus James comes into Mccullough, Martha England from Johnathan and Bell. Anyone else have information to set me straight. In 10 yrs I have concluded that there are two families with Major Samuel Mccolloch and one lived but the records are merged. A note left by a Great Aunt indicated the killed by indians Samuel is in this line and have much information both ways. Living Samuel is from Early and Gurly lines.
Anybody out there researching the Hershman family of Barbour Co, WV? The family arrived about 1840 from Hardy Co, WV. They had a connection with the Righman family. Need to ask a couple questions.....Thanks...Lyle Corder
