I would like to thank those who helped with the Ebenezer Kelley search. We have reasonably well made an ID. Stingley E. Kelley the son of John L and Mary Yoak is the same as Ebenezer S. Kelley who married Amanda Curry (his next door neighbor) and later moved to Iowa. Ebenezer (Stingley) and Amanda had a total of 14 children. RE Martha Kelley --- I have that both Johnson Kelley and Dyer Kelley had a daughter Martha. Which Martha married Wesley Bolton?? Bob Hershman

Hi, Dwight, If you agree with what it says, please explain it to me. I have only questions as I read it. I have embedded my questions in the petition below following each item (>>). Curt Malone in Fairfax, VA . To: United States Congress To: The Congress of the United States of America We the undersigned citizens, call upon the Congress of the United States of America to introduce and pass a National Cemetery Protection Act that would ensure the protection and preservation of our nations historic cemeteries by defining specific rules and regulations pertaining to A) Cemetery Use, Care, Control and Protection, including but not limited to: - A mandatory Dusk curfew. >>Who will enforce this provision, the landowner or legal authorities? - The mandatory recording of surveys and plats. >> Who pays for the surveys and plats, and the recording of same? - Record Keeping >>What records must be kept, who will keep them, and, who will pay for this service? - General cemetery care guidelines (including fences and upkeep) >>Who will determine the level of maintenance to be performed, who will provide the fences and upkeep, again, who pays? - Regulations concerning the use of cemeteries on private land >>Will the landowner have input into the process of writing the regulations? Will there be a one-covers-all set of regulations or will the regulations be tailored to the circumstances of each cemetery and ownership? - Regulations concerning the access of cemeteries on private land >> Are these regulations incumbent only on the landowner or do they pertain to the visitors as well? Will the landowner be required to provide liability coverage for the visitors or will he be exempt from legal responsibility in case of an accident.? Who will write these regulations? B) Restricting, Limiting and Regulating the use of a cemetery, including but not limited to: - Road/Railroad/Utility construction >> What in the world does this mean? - Establish conditions applying to the sale or transfer of cemetery property >> What conditions do you want to establish? - Regulations concerning Disinterment, Disentombment and other such removals. >>What regulations do you propose? - Regulations concerning Abandonment and Reburial >> Again, what regulations do you propose? - Transfer of cemetery property from private to public status >>Aren't there laws that cover this? I think this has been done in the past. - Restriction on alienation or condemnation >>Can you translate, I have no idea what this is. What restriction do you envision? Such legislation would call for enforceable penalties including but not limited to monetary fines and/or jail time. >> What are the infractions and the related penalties? What are the penalties which are not fines or confinement? What malfeasance would necessitate a jail term? Sincerely, The Undersigned ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dwight E. Some of the names I am researching: STUART Edward II and wife STUART Margaret (Peggy) moved to Elk Creek about 1824, living on STUART'S RUN. Children: Chapman J., Mary, Jacob W., Barbara, James, Hannah A, Charles and Edward. STUART Edward II and wife Mary CALLAHAN living in Elk Creek 1837. I am currently investigating the locations of their home place with its family cemetery and would like to contact any other descendants. It was Harrison County when they purchased land. I will be in Barbour County briefly in about two weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions for me while I am there? I have copies of the original land deeds, but no other information. I have current DOT maps. Thank you. Barbour Democrat August 24, 1911 page 4 Noah Janes was born near Moatsville, Barbour County, WV February 19th, 1848 and deceased at his home near Philippi, in Pleasant District, August 13th, 1911. Mr. Janes was a son of Alex and Eliza Janes. He was married to Miss Catherine ENGLAND, February 1870; to this union was born two children William Janes, an Attorney at Law in this city, and Ida B. Phillips, who resides on the home farm, near Fox Hall. The wife of the deceased departed this life December 6th, 1889. Besides his two children, the deceased has one brother, Thomas Janes, of Moatsville, WV and six sisters, Mrs. Nancy Nestor of Kasson, WV, Mrs. Margaret Cline, of Moatsville, WV, Mrs. Mariah Isner, of Valley Furnace, WV, Mrs. Elizabeth Shaffer, of Berryburg, WV, Mrs. Alice Cox, of Parsons, WV, and Mrs. Emma C. Freeman, of Belington, WV. Mr. Janes was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church for more than forty years, during which time he lived a consistent Christian life. He was a man who possessed a splendid memory, and dealt with his fellowman honestly. He conducted a mercantile business at Moatsville during the years 1895-6, and was without deception in his business transactions. In the year 1898, he was elected president of the Board of Elections in Cove District, but on account of moving into another district did not assume the duties of said office. His funeral took place at the Moatsville Church, in the presence of a large concourse of people, who felt very keenly the loss which they sustained by his death. The services was conducted by the writer, assisted by the Rev, Koontz, of Arden, WV, after which his body was laid to rest in the England cemetery, there to await the general resurrection of the dead, when all true faith will burst forth into full fruition. We extend our sympathy to the children, the brother, and sisters, and commend them to the tender care and sympathy of our Heavenly father, trusting that the same God in whom the father and brother believed may guide them to a safe and glorious reward. Does anyone know anything about Gordon Bennett? His first name may have been Worthington. He lived on a farm near Hall, Barbour County, and may have worked at some point in highway construction. His wife's name was Leona Huff (spelling?) He was probably born late 1800's, and died probably in the 1950's. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Lee [email protected]

Hello list members, I sent the beginnings of the Local History pages to the Barbour County Genealogy web page last night and have made a few adjustments today to remove "deadend links". More will be coming soon as a few of you have already sent me some interesting items. Take a look and if you can add information to this area or have suggestions I would love to hear from you. Please write me a note before sending any attached files. Queries and Surnames will also be updated to the present date tonight. I have just returned from a short vacation to Los Angeles, which included a trip to a the county records office where I had my first experience looking for records in the basement. A discovery there made me and my husband quite happy. So, now back to work. I'm hoping you all will add a branch to your trees this summer too. It derives its name from the earliest settlers upon its banks." John and Solomon probably came to the area between 1788 and 1792. John Mitchell last appears in the Hanover Township, Morristown, Morris County, NJ tax roles in 1787. Solomon Mitchell never appears on the tax roles probably because of his age. John Mitchell purchased 400 acres of land from William Thompson in 1802. The deed of sale listed the land as 3 miles down the Valley River from the mouth of Fox Grape Creek. He sold parts of his land located on Mitchell's Run to Robert Mitchell and Uriah Weaver in 1824. He later disposed of 145 acres to Philip Haddox Feb 22 1833. Brigett I was referring to the list that appears on the Morris County NJ web page of GenConnect which is a reproduction of the list you refer to. When one does a Mitchell search that document comes up along with many others. On that web page John Mitchell son of John is miss spelled. I have been working with Cheryl Massey on this family for a number of years now. She has been aware of this church list for at least two years. However, there was some question still as to whether Solomon and John Mitchell were brothers. Solomon appeared on this list but she could not find John's name. However, I discovered that John Mitchell was on the list but spelled as John Michell son of John. I sent my message before I read in detail the list of children you had sent on your message. I see that you do have John listed. However, your list has him being baptized before he was born. This list is very valuable since it lays to rest the question as to the relationship of John and Solomon. Circumstantial evidence all pointed to John and Solomon being brothers but this should remove all doubt. I have a good deal of info on the Rev. Simeon Harris family including George Washington Harris, b. 21 Feb 1800, d. 1 Feb 1873, m. 28 Apr 1822 in Barbour County, Christiana Cross, b. 17 Oct 1803, and their son William, b. 9 jun 1824, m. 10 Sep 1843 Annes Phillips. Please contact me off list to exchange info. To all SIMEON HARRIS descendants, I have tried to stir up interest in doing something to preserve and protect the headstone of this important Barbour County preacher.
