Ron thanks for the info and the Chenoweth site. I am related to both sets of Jasper and William Kelley. The Barbour Co cousins are my 1st cousins 4 times remove via the Kelley family. The Randolph Cousins are my third cousins 4 times removed via the Kittle family. It certainly looks like the fellow who did the Chenoweth site did a quite a bit of research. Thanks again. Lillian I have in my database just what you reported below. Jasper Kelley born ca 1835 married Deborah Moore Aug 6 1857 born ca 1842 Issue: Elizabeth 1859, Samuel 1862 & Isiah 1863. William Kelley born ca 1834 married Agnes Moore born ca 1830 Jul 24 1860 Issue Silar R. born ca 1862. A researcher that I am current in touch with says that both Jasper and William were killed in the Civil War. I did not know that but it is still consistant with the census info. I would assume Isiah Moore age 15 and Sarah Moore age 6 were children born to Agnes Moore out of wedlock before she married William Kelley. At any rate we still have not established for certain that Jasper and William were sons of Samuel Kelley of Barbour Co rather than sons of Absolem Kelley of Randolph County. Does anyone have an 1860 Randolph Census??? Bob, William, 16, and Jasper Kelley. 15, were both in the household of Samuel and Delila Kelley in 1850 Barbour. Jasper, 23, and Deborah, 18, were in Philippi, Barbour Co. in 1860. Elizabeth A. Moore, age 2, was living with them. Living in the next property was Elizabeth Moore, 63, widow. With her were Agness Kelly, 33, Isiah Moore, 15 and Sarah Moore, 6 Although William Kelly and Agnes Moore didn't marry until 24 Jul 1860, I didn't find him in the 1860 Barbour Co. census. I don't have the 1870 census. Here's what I found in 1880, which I think is interesting. In Barker Dist., p#031, Agnes Kelley , 50, widow, is listed with Silas R., 18, son, Deborah Kelley, 40, widow, Elizabeth, 21, dau., Samuel, 18, son, Isiah, 17, son, and Mattie, grand daughter, born May 1880. For some reason, I had entered William Kelley and Agnes Moore into my data base in 1996, and said in a note that Agnes Kelly was living with her mother-in-law, in 1860, and that she had two children from an earlier marriage to a Moore, first name unknown. Whether this is something someone shared or whether I assumed this from the names in the census, I don't remember now, but I thought I'd mention it. I hope something here will be of some help. Cousins anyone with a 1860 Barbour Co census. I would like to know where we find Jasper Kelley who married Deborah Moore Aug 6 1857. I think he was Samuel & Delila Kelley's son. Also William Kelley who married Agnes Moore. Is there a Moore family living near the Samuel Kelley family. Bob Hershman, College Place, WA

I believe Enoch Hall was one of the first owners. They can view pictures of it at : http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvbarbou/sandridg.htm and http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvrandol/sandridg.htm . By the way Mary Ann, it's been a while since we corresponded. I had hoped to get back to West Virginia this summer to do research but it looks like I will have to wait until 2001.

My husband's g-g-grandfather, Enoch Hall (1810-1859), owned a mill in Barbour County, but all I know about it is the following: "Enoch Hall owned a gristmill on the Middle Fork River, just south of Alum Cave, which is in what is now Audra State Park." I think that fact came from the Genealogy of Thomas Hall, by Hall/Williams. I'm wondering if this is the same mill that may have been passed along in the family, or if the family had a tradition of being millers. Enoch's son, Jacob Gideon Hall, later owned a mill with his brother-in-law Peachy Campbell (my husband's g-grandfather): From "Hardesty's Biographical Atlas 1882, Vol. 4": [Jacob Gideon Hall] and his brother-in-law, P. B. Campbell, now own one of the best saw and grist mills in the county, in Valley district. Again, was this the same mill or another one?? If anyone knows any history on this, I'd welcome the input. Mary Ann Wamsley
Does anyone have any photos/memories/stories about the Hall mill they would be willing to share? It was built by David Hall, and was located on the west side of the Buckhannon River, just south of where they are building the new bridge. Thanks, Lee [email protected]

My GGGrandfather was Henry Skidmore, b. 1826 and d. May 18, 1898. He married Elizabeth Poling around 1843 in Barbour County. According to Barbour census records, Henry and Elizabeth had the following children: Charles S. born abt. 1854, George W. born March 26, 1856, Mary E. born abt 1859, Emma or Emmaranda, born about 1862, (died at age 26) Jane, born abt 1864, and Mathis born December 16, 1867. I am interested in knowing if anyone is connected to Henry and Elizabeth's children and if anyone knows who Elizabeth's parents were. I have additional information on George, my GGrandfather, but nothing on his siblings. Thanks, Harry Link to my web pages http://www.geocities.com/skiz_2000
Bob, Here's what I have about Wesley Bolton and Martha Kelley. I believe this answers the question of whether she was daughter of Dyer or Johnson. In the 1850 Barbour Co. census, Dyer had a daughter, Martha E.,1/12, so she was probably born that year. In 1860, Dyer's daughter was 11 years of age. I found the marriage for Wesley Bolton and Martha E. Kelley, in Cochran's Barbour Co. Marriages, p. 23. 9 May 1864, when she would have been only 14, but ages and parents weren't given in this record. Johnson Kelley was enumerated in 1850 Barbour, with daughter Martha, age 6., but by 1860, Johnson had moved to Taylor Co., and I don't have any Taylor Co. records. so have no further information on Johnson's family. Neither do I have 1870 census for Barbour Co., so couldn't check to see which Martha was still at home in 1870. In 1880, Wesley, age 39, and Martha E. Bolton, age 30, were enumerated in Barbour Co., with 3 children. Because of her age here, I believe this census record proves Martha Bolton was daughter of Dyer.
