This is a theory and I will appreciate anyone who can either help confirm it or shoot holes in it. My GGrandfather was Andrew Ball and he and his family resided in the St. George area of Tucker County, WV. Andrew married Ingaby or Ingabee Hovatter in Tucker County on March 23, 1883. His parents are listed as Samuel and Elizabeth Ball. My theory is that this Samuel Ball was born to William H. Ball who was born in Randolph County, WV December 16, 1796. Samuel was born in 1840. William and his wife, Christina Parsons relocated to North Missouri in 1854 and he died there in 1872. Can anyone help me verify that William's Samuel had a Son, Andrew? I can find no other Samuel in or around that part of WV that would be my Samuel Ball. Thanks to anyone who can assist me. Nick, I'm a double Gainer descendant. I'm curious about your line. One of my 3rd great grandmothers, Margaret Gainer, had a sister Elizabeth (Betsy) Gainer who married a Nicholas Sturm in Allegany Co., MD, about 1800. Is this your line? Hi, I am also interested in proving this line. Does anyone know the date and where Robert Johnson and Mary Vannoy married? (about 1780's??) Also Where and when Francis Johnson and Elizabeth England (about 1810???) Robert and Mary would be 5th great grand parents Lillian M Dodd wrote: > > Lyle, > How are you connected to this family? Someone in this group OR someone on the Poling List has worked on the George W. Gainer line. If you get a response could we all see it? I have Gainer on my paternal line too. In 1992 I found an article HISTORY OF THE GAINER FAMILY by W.S. Lang, undated, in the Belington Public Library. It includes the following (no dates given): Daniel GAINER m. Rachel MATHEW, d/o Isaac MATHEW. Daniel was s/o George W. GAINER and Phoebe SCHOONOVER (they lived near the present location of Montrose). Celia M. GAINER m. as her first husband Eugenus D. MATHEW (her second husband was Berkley D. Phillips). Celia was d/o George E. GAINER and Mary Jane HARRIS. George E. was s/o George W. GAINER and Phoebe SCHOONOVER. My notes on the MATHEW family show that Rachel was b. abt 1832, and Eugenius/Eugenus s/o Isaac MATHEW was b. abt 1842. I did not find Eugenius in Barbour Co. after 1860. Does anyone know of proof of the two GAINER/MATHEW marriages above? Is the lineage correct for the GAINERs? Thanks, Brenda

This may or may not be the right Martha, but I have a Martha Mitchell b. March 15, 1866, d. November 23, 1918 in Upshur County in 1880. She would be about the right age at 32 for a marriage in 1897. This Martha is the daughter of Middleton R. Mitchell and Dorcas England, of Barbour County, (W)VA.
