    1. [WVA] WV MCCALLISTER Civil War KIA?
    2. David J. McCallister
    3. One of the mysteries in my line is what happened to Richard McCallister of Putnam (part that is now Lincoln Co?) WV during the civil war. He was last seen on the 1860 Cabell County census at age 24 with wife Nancy. He then joined Gen Floyd's Virginia State Line Brigade. Was he killed in action or died as a POW? This unit was reported known as a "bunch of thugs" and were detested in WV after the war. His brother Perry also enlisted in Floyd's brigade and hid out in Lawrence Co KY after the war (1870 census) and waited until things cooled down before returning home. Some possible Richard McCallisters that could be him are: Richard T. McAllister 10th light arty. battery co D Enl. 3/11/62 McAlister, Richard Bat H 1st Reg Ref# WDC 11,5 McAlister, Richard (J.?) Bat D 10th Batt Ref# WDC 64,5 McAllister, R. Co. H 56th Reg Ref# V6, p. 241 McAllister, R. F. Co. D 10th Reg Ref# V1, p. 515 McAllister, R. (J.?) Bat D 10th Batt Ref# V18, p. 25 McAllister, Richard Southall's Bat Ref# V19, p. 41 "WDC" noted on some cards refers to the War Department Confederate material which is in the National Archives. References to volume numbers and page numbers are to the bound volumes which have been microfilmed and are at LVA. Anyone have any ideas? Regards, David McCallister mccallister1@home.com
