I'll try to recap as briefly as I can: According to my present information: My grandmother was JESSICA VIRGINIA GLEASON who wasdaughter to JOHN GLEASON and ELIZABETH MOORE. This was in Botetourt Co., VA. The plot thickens: We can find absolutely nothing in the line of birth or death for Jessica. John Gleason whom we have always thought was her father died in 1869. This we know is true. We have always thought Jessica was born about 1870 so thought she may have been born AFTER her father's death. That happens. However: her mother, Elizabeth Gleason moves to WV at some point and is shown on the 1880 census in WV as being a widow. At this time there is a Robert, age 1 in the household and an Elizabeth, b. about 1873. There is also a William Cunningham, age 50 living in the household. Is he living "with" Elizabeth or is he a hired hand? He was born in VA and did he come to WV with her? The 1900 WV census shows Jessica as Jessacha and states she was born May 1872. Clearly if this is true, John Gleason cannot be her father! But WHO is she and WHERE did she come from? We are stumped. Any clues?
