We have posted 17 additional pages of the Northumberland Court Order Book 1678-99. Some of the interesting records are: John Fisher's Bills of Exchange (which he drew for the partial purchase of the Ship *Constant Matthews* of London Derry) are protested and returned to the Court for collection. The costs of protested bills are quite punitive: four pounds 15 shillings sterling on a 30 pound Bill of Exchange.(i.e. ca. 16%) plus the costs of the Court itself. A 'complete' list of Tithables is provided on pages 037 [ key name CHARLES SHIRLY] and 038 [key name GEORGE PICKINS] The various bailiwicks of Constables in the County are redrawn and ordered recorded on page 32 [key name: JOHN HUGHLETT, Jr.] The infamous "Capt WARD" [key name WILLIAM WOODGATE] is order flogged for stealing 'diverse small things' from THOMAS WINTER, and, for his 'many robberies' in Maryland, delivered to Col. NICHOLAS SPENCER for transfer to Maryland authorities 'if thought convenient.' GEORGE KNIGHT, the Miller, wins a Suit for assault and battery upon his wife by RICHARD PEMBERTON, but receives the "Kings Penny" for damages.
