We have posted an Index to Archibald Henderson's Dumfries Store Ledger in Prince William County for the years 1758-60. Archibald was first thought to be Alexander Henderson's older brother, but it now appears he may have been a more distant relative, perhaps an uncle who was soon to be given a greater responsibility in the management of the Glassford enterprises then growing in strength in Glasgow, Scotland. It is thought that this is the Archibald who was the source for the name given to the first Commandant of the United States Marine Corp, another Archibald Henderson. This store passed off most of its tobacco purchases to its sister store in Colchester, a few miles to the north in Fairfax County.
