Up till now I have only been 'almost certain' that my GGGrandparents were JACOB CARPER & MARIA RONEY m,14 AUG 1849 in Berkeley Co.This has now been confirmed by death certificate and family interview!! As of the 1860 census they show 3 sons- James V./John D./Jacob A. ( I have family hearsay -at this point- of 2 more, Mary and Joshua) It took 2 sessions with an elderly aunt to hit the motherload. I have learned that one talk just isn't enough. Apparently the first talk began to open the door to memories long forgotten and by the second talk they had time to filter up. So dont give up after just one family interview!! She also remembered that the bible buried with my grandmother was not THE family bible- another living relative has it! Can you imagine burying a bible like that though?? At this point I am very suspicious that Carper/Wolfersberg and Carper/Sharff are connected to my people. They are in place in Berkeley Co at the right time. any and all information about these folks woudl be greatly appreciated. I have been told that the Carpers were notoriously bad at keeping records and most of the information we have is due to other sides of the family keeping them! I have good information concerning the eventual move (between the civil war and 1880) to Ohio of Jacob and Maria's children. I feel that some family from Berkeley co. must have already been in place in Ohio to receive the children because my aunt says they moved without the parents. Jacob A. was married in Ohio in 1880- one of his daughters is my grandmother. should anyone be interested- my email is sundog01@home.com thanks- and sorry this was such a long post - but I wanted to be sure of my stuff before asking for help.
