    3. alison, I think that this man traveled in steerage ( the bottom of the ship) as so many did when then came over to the u.s. ] This diary shuld open everyone's eyes as to the hardships suffered not only after arriving--but just making the ocean voyage. thank you for sharing. Jo Ann Gibson I also have family that came from russia (german's living in Russia) though the underground. I have read it probably a hundred times and find it fascinating as well as humbling. This is supposed to be typical of the immigration experience during this time.
