Faith, the name below might help you. This is an individual who will do look-ups. Hope this helps you. MARRIAGES: (how about volunteering?) Ok, I see West's Fort on the West Fork River between Clarksburg and Weston, VA/WV. This could be about 40 miles from the Tygart Valley.... Lyle
Dear Ginny: I can answer some of your questions. First, the Tygart River is in north central WV and flows into the Mononghela River near Fairmont, WV. The Monongahela flows north to Pittsburgh and becomes part of the Ohio River. Actually, another river the Yogahaney (sp) and the Mongahela form the Ohio. The Pittsburgh sports stadium is called the three rivers stadium. Now, Hampshire Co is in the eastern panhandle of what is now WV, borders with VA and not far from MD. Just look at the shape of WV and you will see why it is called the eastern panhandle. Hampshire was once Frederick Co, VA. Now, land called Tygart Valley area could have been in several counties. Of course it depends on the dates...you said during the Rev. WAR. Books that cover Monongalia , Taylor, Barbour,Randolph and Preston Cos of present WV would be the best. That is all the time I have right now....I have heard of Wests Fort. Later. Lyle Corder
Hello, I'm seeking advice on a beginning point for research for the following information. My GGGGGrandfather, Jacob May (b.1730 in Germany), had four sons who were Abraham (b. 1762), Jacob, Jr. (b. 1766), (b., William (b.1769) & David (b. 1771). In Abraham's claim for his Revolutionary War Pension, he states that his "residence was in Tygert's Valley about forty miles from West's Fort (a frontier county and but few families tending them) and . . . . <was> drafted and entered the service of ... the Virginia Militia from Hampshire County." I have never visited the state of West Virginia, but am told that the portion of Virginia mentioned above is now a part of West Virginia. My questions are: 1.) Where is Tygert's Valley & Hampshire County? 2.) What history reference might be recommended to learn about this area during the Colonial Period. 3.) In which document would I look to find the names of my Grandfathers' wives? 4.) Are these names listed in your family's genealogy? If so, please contact me. Thank you for your time & help. Ginny Becker (Alabama)
There is a Coal City in Raleigh Co. off Rt. 3 and is a very small place. This is the only one I know of, if anyone else knows of one I am sure they will contact you. Margaret Butler. margarat@cwv.net
Janna, I am trying to find records of marriage for my great grandfather Conrad Kreigbaum Lanam. I believe he married Ivy Brown around 1900 in Lowell, Ohio then moved to New Martinsville, WV. He divorced Ivy and married Mabel Garrison sometime before 1919. When Mabel died, he supposedly remarried Ivy Brown. Can you help? Since I don't have exact dates, I can't request copies of their marriage licenses. thanks Leslie

Is it possible to look and see if there any Livingston marriages in Cabell and Wayne Co around 1890-1915. Thanks Rita Leise
I have checked the Social Security Index. They are a couple of possiblities but no way to be sure if it is correct. No enough info. I think he died in WVA also someone said ina coal mining accident...no one know for sure. Ada seems to have disappeared or maybe remarried.....Its probably a lost cause......I have also checked birth and death records in Wayne Co. but no luck. Only the birth of my father.. but not his brother........Rita
If no one gets the information you need before tomorrow or Wednesday, our local library has the 1900 Wood Co. census on microfilm and I can look it up for you on one of those days. Susan
Hello Valerie & Tommy - I was wondering if you had any ARTHUR, STILTNER or WOODS BIOS that maybe you could post. Or anyone for that matter. Mainly in the Webster Springs Area of WV; of Webster County. Thanks, Faith blount@digital.net
West Virginia became a state June 20, 1863, by President Lincoln.
Hello, I was wondering if anyone can look up a marriage for me. I am searching for the marriage date of Lee Anderson ARTHUR to Price STILTNER. It would have been 1888 or before. With the Court house burning down, I am having trouble finding this info. I was told once that this info could be found at the state level, because this info would have been sent there also - Is this true? Also, when did WV become its own state? If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Faith blount@digital.net
