Dear List Members, It appears that I have been duped and must apologize to you all. It is not like me to pass on things without checking them out first but for some reason, it never occurred to me that this might be a hoax coming across a list. Please accept my humble apologies. Attached is a message I rec'd from a cousin. I appreciate her correcting me in this matter. Charlene Brenda Stepro wrote: Hi Charlene! Evidently this is a hoax running rampant on the lists! It's the Social Security Numbers that will be denied with this bill! Someone on one of the lists called and verified this. I thought you'd like to know! I appreciate your effort and intent though, in letting me know!!!!!! Thanks! God Bless! Brenda

This came through another list and I thought some of you researching in Ohio might want to know about this. Charlene OHIO HR BILL 519 This comes from the April 2000 Mahoning County Chapter of the OGS newsletter: "Introduced into the Ohio House of Rep. is a bill to amend the Ohio Revised code that should have genealogists up in arms. 'It states, in part, that upon receiving a request for records pertaining to the issuance of marriage licenses, a probate court shall furnish copies of the records as provided under section 149.43 of the Ohio Revised code, except that the court shall delete or otherwise remove any social security numbers and the maiden names of the mothers of the parties to a marriage so that they are not available to the person requesting the records, except for use by the department of human services, law enforcement personnel, and if ordered by the court in a civil or criminal trial.' If any individual genealogist feels that this would impact their ability to do genealogical research, a letter voicing your concern would be in order here. The address is: The Honorable ____, Ohio Representatives, 77 South High St., Columbus, Ohio 43266-0603. Or www.house.state.oh.us/voice/index. html. Representative Ron Hood from Canfield is a co-sponsor of this bill."

References: <62.26dad02.2627b914@aol.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Well so far Patti, I have been confused...but this is normal for me..I have been reading abt your Harvey.Curtis Rairden born abt 1847 (this says Oh).He was married (in Gallipolis, Gallia Co., Oh) December 06, 1868 to Hannah Waugh !st. .had a son Marion Rairden..born in 1869..Marion married Addie Hill.November 10, 1889 in Mason co., WV.. .Harvey Curtis married the second time March 04, 1880 in Mason co., WV to Rachael McDaniel. Harvey Curtis died May 06, 1907 in Leon, Mason co., WV and had children.. 1. James H. born 1881 md Esther L. Parsons May 08, 1910 in Mason Co., WV 2. Ida born 1884 md perry Sayre 3. John W. born 1885 md Stella A. Knapp June 24, 1908 in Mason co., WV 4. Ernie born 1888 md Mary Carsen 5. George Allen born 1891 md Wretha Parsons in 1922 It says Harvey and Rachael(died July 02, 1919) are buried in Leon Cemetery this does not say where or what happened to HannahWaugh Rairden. Now I am reading your letter and you mention an Aunt Hannah? George allen Rairden was a legislator in Charleston..(My dad knew him..he would talk abt George..George had a children Donald L. born in 1922 and and Nancy born in 1929. who married Harold Bowman .. Leon is up the Kanawha River ..if you have a map of WV you can find it..There is hardly anything left now.. Now is this first marriage to Hannah Waugh where you come down from?. and where does Cecelia fit in? is this William's wife?or is Rachael McDaniel's other name Cecelia?..hope I am not confusing here...and were they in Ripley too? that is abt 25 miles from Point Pleasant so maybe abt 15 from Leon....So do you come down from Marion? I hope we can get a lead on Hannah..but the Waughs are a hard line to connect to any other Waughs..She may have been from Oh but lots of Mason county people went over there across the Ohio river to get married...I have been in Niagara Falls..? as that close to Syracuse? One Family site is a nice place you could have your Rairden site on and invite others that are researching the same Rairden lines to join..and you can have "chat Night" and you can talk to each other if you have a microphone. you have to set up passwords....attached to your computer..you have to download a voice thing..I still don't know much abt it but I am on several groups..Well if I see the info I will send..It is probaby easy but I like to see things done first..let me know if this makes any sense!?.
