I am trying to break through one of the may dead ends in my efforts to discover all of the descendants of my immigrant g-g-grandparents. Like most of us, I lack the ability to visit every state vital records office personally so I am asking for your help. Could someone please check the state register for the death of George LAUSCHER? DOB Sept. 1885 in WI DOD After 1944 - place unknown George's parents were Hubert LAUSCHER and Mary Ann STOFFELS. George is not listed on the Social Security death index. He divorced his wife and left his home in MI about 1934 when his youngest son was 3. He is now 70 and never heard from or saw his father again. Since I am not a regular subscriber to all state lists, if you have any information that could help me discover George's death date and resting place, would you please e-mail me personally. In advance, thank you. Janet Mihelich
Hi Everyone-- I am hoping that someone on this list can help me with the family of Jesse STREET and Susannah HAMBLE. Jesse was born in June, 1781 in Harford Co., MD. He left Maryland about 1800-1805 and may have lived a few years in Brooke Co., VA (now Wva). In 1806 me married Susannah HAMBLE in Columbiana Co., OH. Their first child was probably Jemima, born in 1807 in VA. Jesse and family were in the 1830 and 1840 census records for Yellow Creek Twp., Columbiana Co., OH. From those records, it appears that they had 2 more daughters (one possibly named Ariel) and a son. I am trying to find the names of all of their children. Their daughter, Jemima Street (born 1807) married Daniel RIDER in 1832 in Ashtabula Co., OH. He was born 1806 in Ohio. They settled in Columbiana Co., OH and had 11 children born in Wellsville. In the mid 1850s they moved their family to Lee Co., Iowa, settling in Nashville, Montrose Twp. Daniel died in 1878 and Jemima died in 1877 both in Lee Co., Iowa. Their children, all surname RIDER, were: Jesse, John, William, Jacob, Henry, George, Margaret, Daniel Jr., Columbus, Washington, and Susanna Katherine. Daniel RIDER was son of John Rider and had at least 2 brothers, Henry and Jacob. Finding out about John Rider has been difficult. He may be the John Ritter/Rutter/Rider who was born about 1765 and married about 1788 in Baltimore or Carroll Co., MD to Catharina FRANKFORTER. Catharina was dau. of Johann Nicholas Frankforter and was born about 1770 near Manchester, Carroll Co., MD. I will appreciate any help in identifying for sure the John Rider who was father of Daniel Rider. Sue Streett
Hello Fellow Listers, Forgive me if this is duplicate for any of you. I am planning to forward this to all the lists I have subscribed to. I thought you might like this web site. On the VA GenWeb page, the county changes can be traced by year. This link will take you to the county maps and the changes for VA and WV counties. Also the individual county pages will help you determine what counties came from what and when. Hope this helps. ks >>> <NevaJB@aol.com> 08/17/00 09:52AM >>> In a message dated 8/17/00 12:13:34 AM Eastern Daylight Time, Ginnypin@aol.com writes: << Would someone please tell me which counties today were originally in Va.? Online at http://129.71.134.132/militia/wvunmil.html and searchable by name, county or unit. It's best to check the county lists in order to catch alternative spellings, e.g., Wanless as Waulas and Wandless, Hager as Hagar, McNeely as McNaly and McNeeley. There are some interesting features which show up from inspection of several records. Most Pocahontas volunteers signed up in Buckhannon, Upshur County in 1864; my ggfather's autobiography notes that his Waugh family in Buckhannon was flooded with Pocahontas relatives. The following counties are available now, others later: >Barbour >Boone >Braxton >Brooke >Cabell >Calhoun >Clay >Gilmer >Greenbrier >Hancock >Hardy >Lewis >Logan >Marshall >Mason >McDowell >Monroe >Morgan >Nicholas >Pendleton >Pleasants >Pocahontas >Preston >Putnam >Raleigh >Randolph >Roane >Tucker >Wayne >Wirt >Wyoming

Dear Rosie, Lorna, Neva, June, Nan, Pat, Linda, Teresa, Kathie, Nancy & HelonKeyes@aol.com: I'd like to thank all of you for responding to my query re: 1880 Kanawha County Census books. I just got off the phone with the Marsh family of Rayne, LA. Volumes 8 & 10 of the 14-volume 1880 WV Census are on their way. (Volume 8 = Roane, Kanawha & Boone. Volume 10 = Jackson, Putnam & Mason.) For those interested each hardback volume is still $38.50 as Neva's E-mail indicated. Postage is included in the price. The address & phone number are as follows: William Marsh 100 Cynthia Street Rayne, LA 70578 (337)-334-2377 Thanks again for all your help. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com
I wrote to Tyler Co, WV, for a death certificate and received one for a person unknown to me. Her name is Elizabeth E. CLARK. Since this is not my ancestor, I thought I would ask if anyone on this list knows who this is and would want the certificate. She died 1 Jan 1918, age 117 years, in WV. I wonder about the recorded age. A typo, perhaps? It is recorded in Book 5, page 28, of the Tyler Co Death Record.
Am looking for an 1880 Kanawha County Census book. Have checked both the WV Genealogical Society & Kanawha Valley Genealogical Society web pages without luck. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any information. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com
My copy of the 1860 Wyoming County, VA/WV Census is missing 3 pages. The missing pages contained households numbered 160-168, 225-234 & 364-372. Can anyone help me fill in the blanks? Thank you in advance for any information. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com
These are the land grants I found at http://198.17.62.51/collections/LO.html for Virginia under the surname BURROUGHS and any other spellings I could find that looked like they might be misspellings of the surname. I put them in chronological order. I hope they help someone! If you visit the site, it has digital files of the original land grants that you can download and print! (you do need Adobe Acrobat Reader, I believe.) If the county was in Kentucky, I put KY, otherwise the county was in VA at the time of the grant. Hello, I have been researching my husband's family. I recently obtained a copy of his grandparents' marriage license application. His grandfather, Rudolph Felgar, lists his parents as being Fred Felgar born in Scottdale, PA & his mother as being Elizabeth Day born in W VA. I am hoping that someone might recogonize her name. I know it is a pretty common name & I really only have her name. This marriage took place in 1915. I'm guessing Elizabeth would have been born in the mid to late 1800's. Thank you.
