Someone on one of my lists asked about a book pertaining to the Battle of Point Pleasant.....since this is the most likely list, I will post to this list and hope she is reading....In the History of Charleston & Kanawha county by W.S. Laidley, the books that he recommends reading are 1. The Dunmore War by R.G.Thwaites 2. History of the Kanawha by Atkinson 3. Trans-Aleghenies by Dr. J.P. Hale 4.Border Warfare by Wither's 5/ Mrs. Poffenberger's account of its Anniversary 6. Mrs. D.A. McCulloc's account 7. The Dunmore War by E.O. Randall 8. An article of the National Character of Said battle by V.A. Lewis. Some of these I have read...some I am not even sure what my note meant...but perhaps this is a starting place...I do not have the book on hand so I can not double check any of this...but I was filing this afternoon and thought I would send it along while I had it in hand. The lady that asked was interested in a woman who was captured....I have never heard of any woman captured during this battle...and since the Indians were not the victors...I doubt that that did indeed happen...but the history books are full of women captured at other times...Marsha in WV

Hello, I am looking for a M. O. or Melvin Dutton born probably before 1850, supposedly born West Virginia. His son Melvin O. was born 1869. Can anyone help? carole
Emma, I picked up a book while I was in Point Pleasant that was all about the battle. They have a museum and monument in the park where the Kanawha meets the Ohio, I assume run by the Historical Society. Suggest you join the Mason County list or put a query on the Mason county web site. Maybe someone would mail it to you - it was only a few $$$.
