    3. Hello Ohio Rooters I am hoping someone on this list can help me. I am seeking information on Roger Lyle Wilcox born in Ohio sometime between 1906 and before official records were kept in 1908. I am hoping someone on the list has experienced what I am going through and can assist me in my search. Roger Lyle Wilcox was my uncle. He was married in California in 1930 to my father's sister. The couple had two children one named Billie "Diane" Wilcox and the other Yvonne Wilcox. On the couples marriage certificate is states Roger's father's name was W. C. Wilcox and mother was Olive Nicholas. It also indicates they lived in West Virginia. I do not know if they lived in West Virginia or Ohio at the time or Roger's birth or they lived there after his birth. Roger was a commercial artist and lived in Greenich Village New York in the mid 1940's. Diane lives with her mother in Phoenix Arizona and the whereabouts of Yvonne is unknown with the exception that I know a guardianship hearing was held in California sometime between April 1935 and June 1935. Yvonne was not heard from after than date. Her sister hopes information on her father Roger will lead to the location of her younger sister. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. I know that each family was in Shenandoah County, Virginia in the late 1700s, but these names keep popping up "over the mountains" in what is now West Virginia. My line of FILSMOYERS was headed by Johannes who married Susanna --. They had thirteen children: Elizabeth, Eva Susanna, Magtalena, Rosina, Catharina, Christina, Adam (I), Johannes B., Abraham, Michael, Adam (II), Heinrich, and my ancestor, Maria Toratha (or Mary as she was known later in Morrow Co., Ohio). Where did they come from prior to 1770? What is Susanna's, the mother, maiden name? The COILs in my family are traced back to Abraham COIL who married Mary (Maria) FILSMOYER 11 June 1810 in Shenandoah Co., Virginia. They moved to Ohio around 1818. I suspect that his parents are John and Betty COIL, but have no proof. Was this line in West Virginia (rather, those counties that later became part of WVA)? 1. Re: [WVA-L] Burnthouse??
    2. john o adkins
    3. Burnthouse is located in Ritchie County on Route 47, between Smithville and Weston. From Glenville you can take the Tanner road off route % and it brings you to where Route 47 is . There is where Burnthouse is. It got it's name from an Inn that was there when the settlerss would come from Parkersburg heading east. The Owner had a boy and two slaves that took care of the place. One was a african woman and the other was a man. During that time salesmen would come out From parkersburg and stay there and peddle their wares. Story has it that the boy would kill these salesman for their wares, and then they would take the bodies over into what they call dead mans holler. One night supposedly another boy there saw them cut the head off a salesman setting in front of the fire at the inn. They turned them in and the boy and his father fled and went to Texas I believe. They sold the inn and the slaves. Turns out the girl was in love with the owners boy and one sunday when the people were returning from church the inn was on fire. In the top of it there was a widow watch tower that the slave girl wasa in and dancing. The house burnt down with her in it. They say that every once in a while a flame comes up from the foundation and dances around then floats over to dead mans holler and goes out.. That is all I can remember of the story right now. There is a Goff woman that lives there who has the whole story on it. She wrote a paper about it and we have a camp on our uncles property there with the story . If there is someone in particular your looking for there I may be able to help or find out something for you.. John Adkins
