    1. [WVA] Deaths Logan Co 1872-1892
    2. Hi: In I was reviewing the above last night, I made an interesting discovery. For the period stated, there were 251 people listed as having died in Logan Co. Of that number, 87 people - primarily died in the years 1875 or 76. Cause listed most often was Sore Throat; some said dyptheria, which I'm sure was the real cause of the sore throat notations. In a 2 yr period, that is almost 35% of total deaths reported over the 20 yr period. Another year that was significantly hit by dyptheria was 1885, but deaths were no where nearly as high. I would suspect that adjoining counties may have had similar stats. Families located in Logan Co 1870 census (and possibly adjacent counties) that were missing children in 1880 census - this could well be the reason. BTW, I do not sub to the Logan List; perhaps someone on this List who does could forward the info. Source: Logan Co, WV Birth & Deaths 1872-1892 Compiled by: Donna L Brown. This book is probably still available for purchase. Her address: P.O. Box 188, Bruno, WV 25611. Gloria [email protected]

    2. I am researching the full GOSNEY family in the hopes I can locate my g.g.grandfather - William Gosney's parents. My William was born in VA in 1788. Big state at that time. First located in Clermont Co., OH when married and owned land. Later moved to KY. Please look thru your databases and any mention of GOSNEY, I would love to hear about. They do show up in the most remote areas. Name also spelled GOSNAY / GAUSNEY / GAWSNEY. May all of your brick walls come tumbling down. Beth Shields (FL) grand daughter of a Gosney.

    3. Hello: I live in St Mary's County Maryland which is 40 miles SE of Washington DC. We have a huge Mattingly population here. I believe that Mattingly was one of the original founding names of Maryland. Our county was settled in 1634 and the Mattingly family has stayed and intermarried here. Maryland keeps its old records at the Hall of Records in Annapolis (I think). I am not sure because my family is all from WV. I moved here as a child and don't do Maryland research. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, August 15, 1999 2:19 PM Subject: [WVA] Moorefield, WVA >Hi, everyone! 2. A small world it is. I am from Logan County and my grandparents actually met and knew Devil Anse. They told me numerous stories about both Hatfields and McCoys. When I was a young child (I'm not 66 years old), I use to play in the areas where the feud took place.
