I think the Woodells live in Marlinton, wv, probably all you ned is a zip-code. DJR
Oh, the thought just occurred to me as well that they publish their address freely for the purpose of the purchase of their book so I doubt very seriously if they would mind me just giving it to you. It can be found as a matter of a fact on the USGENWEB pocahontas county west virginia site under the materials for sale section. I will also help in any way that i can. alison Alison D. Alison You are a treasure thanks. `Sense I started with this genealogy it seems like all I do is ask for help. So far I have only been able to give a small portion to others that I have received. I am trying to trace down William Lee and Mary Margarete Simpson. Mary is from Ireland. I am not positive where William is from. I do know they met in Pa. But where is a question, they also married their or so it seems. I am also looking for a Jim Edward Welch he lived mainly in Clay Co. he seems to be a dead end so far, I cant just give up it wouldn't be any fun in that. I appreciate e the info and will get on it tomorrow, its getting late and 5 am looks pretty early some days. Betty Proudnana4

Mike, Go to the SSDI Search at : http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi Since all three may have received Social Security benefits there is a good chance you would find them .... especially your father. It gives the death date and frequently the birth date and the state where the social security card was issued. For $7.00 you can also get a copy of their SS application that has all sorts of information on it. Click on the far right hand column after the name ... it gives you a printed letter with all the necessary information for requesting the copy. All you have to do is fill in your name and address and a check for $7.00. Good Luck, Jennifer Pursell
I am searching for infomation on Joseph Vasvary, grandfather, born in Hungary 1858. He was married to Susan Simon. They had 3 children,Joseph, Jr. Elizabeth, and James. FYI Hope it helps. Linda QUOTES FROM A CONVERSATION BETWEEN COUSINS Over the past few months it has been a great pleasure for me to get to know two new second cousins, Rosamund Ball and her brother James Lewis Ball, who are both terrific genealogists. We share a set of great grandparents, Isaac and Mary Perdilla (Garee) Boggs. Rosamund and Lewis also descend from James Martin Boggs and Margaret Anne (Byrne) Boggs. They have graciously donated a collection of family histories for the use of Hackers Creek Pioneer Descendants. This collection has something for almost everyone researching in Central West Virginia. The Ball Family 1 disk The Smith Family 2 disks Four notebooks 1 The Boggs Family 49 generation charts going back several centuries 2 Descendants of John Livingston (Boggs) 13 generations from the 1600s Also Ancestors of Margaret Anne Byrne 24 generations plus index 3 Descendants of George Cutlip and Susannah 77 pages plus index 4 Descendants of John Jarvis and Hanna Hill 9 generations plus index (Look in this for the real Mammy Jane from the book) I recognize the effort that went into this and appreciate greatly both of you sharing Linda, the material is to be shared freely with anyone in the Family who is interested in it. It is not to be sold, published for monitary gain, or credited as the work of someone other than Lewis or myself. This research was done simply to share. Both Lewis and I fully appreciate the contribution our ancestors made to not only West Virginia but also to what is now known as the United States of America. Our family, on all sides, has made a rich contribution to Americas history .and wed like to acknowledge it and share it with others. ___________________________________________________ HACKERS CREEK PIONEER DESCENDANTS AND CENTRAL WEST VIRGINIA GENEALOGY AND HISTORY LIBRARY P. Neva -- I don't seem to have this particular SMITH family group in my database, but I think there is a good chance that they are related to my Smiths who originated in NJ and ended up in Tyler / Doddridge Co., WV. You listed Ohio Co. for some of yours -- that's nearby, of course, and I think all were one county at one time. Ralph was a given name that carried through from the earliest generations and appeared in many of the families. One early Ralph settled in Greene Co., PA, so that is a place you might look. Some of those Smiths moved to Monroe / Belmont Co., OH, before settling in WV. There is an old book by Howard L. Leckey titled "The Tenmile Country and Its Pioneer Families: Genealogical History of the Upper Monongahela Valley" which has some info about the Greene Co. Smiths. And someone published a book on the descendants of Ralph and Olive (Clark) Smith a few years ago, but I have not yet been able to find a copy. Here is a family group sheet for some of my early Smiths -- the Ralph here is probably not yours because the only two children I have for him are William (b 1794) and James -- those names weren't on the list of children you posted for your Ralph. Nevertheless, there may be a connection. My link is through John and Lettice (Clyne) Smith. the hatfields and mccoys were featured on the history channel's 'histories mysterys' this past week. they will probably show it again, check the late night listings if its not on earlier. or you could check www.historychannel.com i think they have a link to the life magazine article and they have tv listings. some of their shows could be great to a genealogist that would happen to be related to people they're discussing on the different shows! rhonda ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, August 21, 1999 3:50 AM Subject: WVA-D Digest V99 #209

Hi Here's a great site for pictures and a brief synopsis of the Hatfield & McCoy families done by Life magazine some years ago. http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~dmcco01/McCoy/LIFE/ I was at the Hatfield Cemetery (there's a nice picture at above site) in May of this year. Have a baby brother buried caty-cornered from Wm. Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield's statue and a g-grandmother not far from the baby. But they are Sargents & Clicks, not Hatfields. More than just Hatfields have family buried at the cemetery, but it was (and probably still is) on Hatfield land. Anyone visiting better wear good hiking boots and plan on a very brisk, tough climb up that hill. You cannot drive .... we had a four-wheel jeep and didn't want to risk getting up that path with it. Although the way up there is right off a busy highway, once you are at the site it feels very isolated. Gloria [email protected]
Ron, Here is a website for the Hatfield-McCoy Feud photos and articles (I haven't looked at all of it yet): http://www.wvlc.wvnet.edu/history/hatfield And, the address and phone# for GOLDENSEAL is: The Cultural Center 1900 Kanawha Blvd. East Charleston WV 25305-0300 (304) 558-0220 "Articles appearing in GOLDENSEAL are abstracted and indexed in 'Historical Abstracts and America: History and Life.'" The article is entitled: "After the Feud: Livicey Hatfield's Photo Album", by Robert Spence, pp.50-55. There is also a listing for GOLDENSEAL somewhere on one of the WV pages, but can't locate it right now. WV still has a piece of my heart, even though I've not lived there for many years. I recommend GS to anyone with an interest in WV. It's published four times yearly. If nothing else works, email me again and I'll send you a copy of the article by snailmail (don't have a scanner).
