Thank you so much! Maureen
Last year I got a death certificate from Charleston. the death was in 1918 and the person was born in 1894. The death certificate showed both dates. Why don't you try asking for the death cetificates first and you will have the exact date of birth? Also you will find the names of the deceased parents. I remember when I called Charleston to ask where to get my information the told me in was in the ARCHIVES. Try this and if it does not work, write again and I will see what else I can come up with. Phyllis
Mike, I haven't done any specific research in WVa, but you might try going to the website of the county where your people are buried. Most of the county GenWeb pages give information on where to obtain needed data. I would look into getting copies of the death certificates for each of them. These documents sometimes give a good deal of information on folks. Good Luck Sallie California "Bowles Michael L. (DEN2MXB)" wrote: > I am very new to tracing my family tree and I have a question.. They were all buried in the same cemetery in Huntington, W.Va., Springhill Cemetery. I hope someone can help.. Thanks, Mike Bowles, stumped..

Fortunately I was able to aquire a little info from Charleston. As for the info they could not supply, they told me to start with the county clerks office. Even if you don't know for sure what county they were born in, you can start with the county they are buried in. It is very possible they were born and buried in the very same county. Good luck to you! [email protected]

Have you checked the Census records to find them as children? If your grandmother was born in 1880 then she should be a baby on the 1880 Census and listed with her parents (depending on what month her birthday was) and your Dad will be on the 1910 Census with your grandparents and your Dad will also be on the 1920 Census with his parents. I have the 1880 Census of Cabell and will be happy to look to see if your grandmother is listed if you can give me some names. I imagine that you could go to the Cabell County Web page Cabell County West Virginia GenWeb (click on the blue line) and they might have recorded that cemetery or if you ask someone on this list they might even have it or do a lookup for you at the cemetery. Please let me know your names and let me see what I can turn up for you. Pat

Hi. Hoping someone can help with this. What sources would I use to search for someone's parents in the late 1700, early 1800's? I know there are some church records but what other records are there? I am fairly new at doing american research. My ancestors lived in Madison Co. Ohio and I've traced them back to 1830. The census records have listed them as coming from Virginia. One of my cousins says she has a marriage record for them from 1825 that has them getting married in Harpers Ferry, Virginia. She said this came from a book but she never gave me a title. The surnames I am researching is TILLMAN/THOMAS. I would really like to know what records would be good for locating parents and a birthplace. Thanks. Jean
