    3. Thank yo so very much. I really appreciate this. Now, another favor? Can you tell in the 1860 census where he states his place of birth is? I can see hers is Virginia, but I cannot make out what his is supposed to be. Allegedly, he was born in Maryland, but that conglomeration of letters does not look like MAryland. And I don't know how to clean it up to make it out? Could I indulge upon your patience one more time? Thank you, Carol

    3. Carol, Just thought I would let you know that in the 1860 index they transcribed the birth state as Penn--I guess they couldn't make it out either and Pennsylvania was their best guess.
