Hi, I need to locate Johnson JANES in 1900 Census WV Probably Wood County. I don't know who his parents were and the JANES surname could look like JONES or JAMES but I thought with a first name like Johnson it might not be hard to spot. Would appreciate any help Thanks, Jana
Hi, Would SKS please check their 1860 census for George Willis age about 62 or 63, wife Sarah about 51 or 52 years of age in Harrison or Taylor Co. WV Thanks, Jana
There are two listed, but neither one is near 71 yrs. old. Unfortunately the census image at Heritage Quest isn't opening for me, and ancestry.com seems to be down today, so maybe someone else on the list can give you the family group. In 1880, it would be WV. Hi List, I am sorry, I am searching for info on where to search for the 1830 Census, not 1880! Karen Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations. (Deuteronomy 32:7)
Hi List, can anyone tell me if the 1880 Census for West Vrginia would be listed as West Virginia or Virginia? Thanks! Karen Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations. (Deuteronomy 32:7)

It's also possible they may have lived in Ohio in 1870, especially since Mason is a border County. Also, the only other Crowder family in Mason Co., in 1880, has a 15 year old daughter shown as born in Ohio, while the younger children were listed as born in WV. Although all of Narcissa's children are listed as born in WV in 1880, it doesn't necessarily mean they were. ( I think we've all had our fair share of families, where we KNOW where they were born, but have to wonder just where the census taker came up with their information. lol) Unfortunately the 1870 Ohio information isn't indexed on Ancestry yet, so I couldn't check. Best of luck! ----- Original Message ----- From: <Karenwwwv@aol.com> To: <WV-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 19, 2003 10:17 PM Subject: Re: [WVCEN] Census Lookup Request: 1870 / Mason Co. / Crowder > Narcissa Crowder and her children do not show up in the 1870 Census index for > Mason County or any other county in WV. Narcissa Crowder and her children do not show up in the 1870 Census index for Mason County or any other county in WV. Mason County had no Crowder indexed at all. The family could have been accidentally skipped when the census was indexed. I have had success with doing a page by page search when I knew a family lived in a specific area but did not show up in an index search. Good Luck, Karen

Hi, Just in case anyone else needs to know the below census info for 1850 and 1860 .... Monongalia Co. is now WV, after statehood on June 20, 1863. Before June 20, 1863 WV was a part of VA. Hi Marilyn, I think I need to I brush up on my history on the states surrounding Ohio. That's probably why they were listed as born in Virginia in earlier census and West Virginia in later ones. A volunteer was able to find him in Virginia in 1850 and 1860 and forwarded the images to me. Looks like he may have had some siblings/relatives living with him in 1850. His surname was listed as STACK in 1860. Pollee, I will be sending you the scan for 1860 and if I find it the 1870. On the LDS site it lists a marriage on 13 May 1865 between Charles W Booher and Manerva Miller-it was patron submitted so be sure to verify another way. BaBa, There is no 1860 W. VA census since it didn't become a state until after the Civil War---about 1863? so 1860 census records are still for Virginia.
