    1. [WVCEN] New Census Spreadsheet Available!
    2. Gary Minder
    3. I recently posted an offer on several lists to send a free copy of a U.S. Federal census spreadsheet I developed to anyone interested. The response was overwhelming! It quickly became obvious to me that there are many people as frustrated as me over not having a good method for organizing census extraction data. I created a website to handle the demand for my spreadsheet and quickly got busy developing more spreadsheets for my fellow census researchers. I am proud to announce that I am now making available a new spreadsheet I call CENSUS TRACKER, which I created to supplement and compliment my U.S. Federal 1790-1920 spreadsheet. It allows a researcher to document up to 130 years of the most genealogically significant census data for an individual on a single worksheet! At a glance and in a very professional appearing report, you can trace the important aspects of your ancestors' lives. Your pile of census data, difficult to analyze and evaluate when buried in drawers and paper files, comes alive when logically organized! I invite you to stop by my website at http://www.censustools.com and take a look. Census Tracker and my other spreadsheets are available for immediate download! If you previously visited my website at rootsweb, please change your bookmark. If you use the old address you will be redirected to my new website. 1. [WVCEN] Harris Pendleton Co., 1860
    2. Dear Researchers: I am in search of any information regarding a young woman by the name of Mary Jane Harris. Miss Harris was an unwed mother, bearing a son named William (Harris) in 1860. Mary Jane eventually left Pendleton County, West Virginia and moved to Delaware County, Indiana. Family lore is that she traveled cross country alone with her son. I am trying to determine who her family was. I'm sorry I have no other information regarding Miss Mary Jane. Would someone be so kind as to try to locate a Mary Jane in the household of a Pendleton County Harris family, perhaps in 1850 and or 1860? I'm sorry if there were no censes in West Virginia in those years, I'm afraid I'm a bit of a novice at this. Thank you to all for your time and consideration for my inquiry.

    2. "The Landscape," by Fred M. Fariss I look over the landscape of genealogy To discover the footprints Of those who went before me-- My ancestors. I am awed by their feeble attempt To speak to me Through their paper trails, photographs and hearsay Of where and how they lived. When I meet with them At the threshold of history The discovery is so exciting To reconnect. With those whom I have never seen And some whom I never knew existed It is a family reunion On the plains of imagination. It is like meeting them This side of heaven Before the grand finale Of personal passage. The sad note is The wall That stands as a divider Between me and them, yet to be discovered. There is always hope Of another discovery Today-maybe--tomorrow On the landscape of genealogy.

    3. Would you please lookup a Mary Prince Scott in the Hampshire Co. 1860 Census? According to an Index I found at the local library, the area in Hampshire Co. would be Peidmont, p 305. I unfortunately do not know with whom she would have been living. I am trying to determine if this is the Mary Prince Scott I am tracing. She would have been born in VA. 3. Dear Kind Soul: Would you please look for Joseph COLLINS in 1850 census at Monongalia Co, VA (now WV). I do not know much about him except that he bought "real and personal property" from Levi and Mary JONES in 1843. The deed states that Mary JONES was an heir of James COLLINS, who was named as her father on her marriage bond. I need James COLLINS also, in 1840 at Monongalia Co. He was a pensioner, age 85, probably from the Rev. War. Thanks for your time and efforts. (Volunteers are assured a place in heaven!) Kathryn Jennings nr. cold and snowbound Chicago
