Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Dz.2ADEAE/66.1 Message Board Post: We don't have many transcript/index books for Preston County in the West Virginia Archives and History Library, none for the time periods you need for information regarding Catherine Shaver Matlick. (I did check an 1850 Preston County census book, in case she was born early enough in the year to be included, but she was not listed with any of the three Shaver families enumerated.) If you want to write a research letter to us, we can search Preston County records on microfilm in hopes of finding her parents' names on her marriage record. We can also send you a copy of her county death record and/or state death certificate, which usually gives parents' names, if known by the informant. We can look for an obituary in her local area newspaper, if we have one. We have all the census for Virginia/West Virginia through 1870, and for West Virginia through 1930. We can look for her family in the 1860 census. For more information about writing to us, visit our Web site at www.wv! culture.org/history and click on "Archives."

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: LUCAS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Dz.2ADEAE/72 Message Board Post: I have been searching for the burial place of my paternal great-grandfather Charles H. (possibly Harrison) LUCAS for about four years now. He and his wife Lottie (Charlotte) are listed in the Parkersburg, Wood County, WV City Directories in 1910 and then the next directory I have access to is 1916, and Lottie is listed as a widow. He may/may not be buried in WV, but they were poor common folk, so I have to guess that they had to bury him close to where he died. Charles was born in an unknown location in OH in 1866. I have not been able to get a death cert. for him, WV tells me they do not have one. I have contacted the three or four funeral homes in the Parkersburg area that were around in the early 1900's, and still are. None of them can find any burial record for him either. Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks so much in advance. Joyce LUCAS DEVER, near Seattle

    3. Good Morning, My paternal great grandfather Charles H. (probably Harrison) LUCAS died in Parkersburg, Wood County, WV between 1910 and 1918 (according to the city directories). I have not been able to get a death certificate for him, nor can I locate his place of burial. I have contacted the Parkersburg funeral homes that are still open, that were open in the above years. None can help me. I have tried obtaining a death cert. For him through Wood County, and no one can seem to find one. Any information on this man's final resting place would be so appreciated. He has been my brick wall for 13 years, and the mortar has yet to begin to crumble. Thanks so very much. Take care and do be safe. Joyce LUCAS DEVER, near Seattle skipdever@earthlink.net

    3. Does anyone have any records for the "Old Gernmany" cemetery in Frankford? My husband's grandparents are buried there. His name was Archibald Rigsby b. 1846/47 d. 1926. She was Catherine Cornwell Rigsby, b. 1856 d. 1919. Any help appreciated as we are hoping to be in that area next summer and I would like to take my husband there and perhaps photograph the stones. 2. Kathy, I sent a reply to you on the WV Kanawha County list, also, but thought I'd share the website with this list, too. > The website for Red Warrior Cemetery is -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvkanawh/cemetery/RedWar1.html/ I have many relatives buried there, and visited the cemetery several years ago. It was pretty much inaccessible with the car I was driving, so I didn't go up the hill. Take someone with you if you plan to visit -- there are black bears in "them thar hills" (I'm not kidding!). Are you related to Kay Hamby? She and I were majorettes together at Leewood Junior High School, wa-a-a-ay back in the 50s.
