This Irish Quaker ancestress on my father's side seems to remain a mystery. Quaker research at Dublin admits they found no specific proof as to her parentage, although the man surname Fayle who introduced Quaker faith to Ireland has a beautifully organized decadency chart. Unfortunately, Elizabeth apparently was a favorite name in its generations. Through Irish 1911 Census available free currently at Rootsweb/Ancestry I've learned that there were 63 Fayle families living in the Dublin area. Here are my only "proved" facts about ours: Fayle, Elizabeth Born - I'm using Edenderry, Ireland as location since that was the Quaker church from which she transferred when she came to U.S. - no birth date Died - West Virginia? Where? When? Where buried? Died as Elizabeth (Fayle) Townsend, wife of Townsend Matthews, Sr., whom she married after arriving in this country. Transferred from Edenderry, Ireland, Monthly Meeting to Exeter, PA, Monthly Meeting - 28 Nov 1754 [records on file in PA] Letter of Edenderry, Ireland, Monthly Meeting transfer gives 1753 Feb. 26, 1761 - Exeter MM minutes - Elizabeth Fayle precautioned of consequences if she marries non-Quaker March 26, 1761 - Exeter MM minutes - Elizabeth Fayle now ("alias" Matthews - dropped Hinshaw volume for Virginia shows Mr. and Mrs. Townsend Matthews, Sr. (Mrs. Elizabeth Fayle) both back in good standing with Quakers. [I neglected to put any date/s.] Although someone has entered Townsend Matthews, Sr. ancestry in detail back to their English origins, nothing at all in the way of dates or places or parentage is there for his wife. I've tried spot searches through various online sources that presented themselves - but came up with nothing new. Children of this couple are listed at Rootsweb in family lineages: 1. Emele (Amelia?) - b. abt. 1762-1768 - Berks Co., PA d. 1790, Rockingham Co., VA She married Ebenezer Henton and I've been able to "prove" this line, which eventually produced my father, Raymond Pool McCrosky. 2. Ezekial - b. ca 1765 - Berks Co., PA - d. Greenbriar, VA - m. Jane McSparvin 3. Mary - b.ca 1768 - Berks Co., PA - 4. Robert - b.ca 1771 - Rockingham, VA - probably named after Townsend M. Sr.'s father - this current generation m. Nancy (Matthews) Green 5. Joseph - b. ca 1773 - Berks Co., PA 6. Townsend M. - b. ca 1774 - Berks Co., PA - d. 6 Nov 1843 - Raccoon Tp., Gallia Co., OH - m. Nancy Williams 7. John - b. ca 1875 - Berks Co., PA 8. Elizabeth - b. ca 1777 - Berks Co., PA [NOTE: I show one child b. Rockingham Co., Va - surely must have been my typo since all the others were born in Berks Co., PA] What I'd like to find is some firm proof of the parentage and anything else about the immigrant wife, Elizabeth Fayle. Maybe why she came to the States in the first place - also at least year of birth. If there are other resources I should consult, whether on or offline, please tell me how to address them. Hi Everyone, Rootsweb has been updating it's mailing programs. Most of the changes have only affected the admins and how we handle the list management duties. The "From" address for the lists have changed, so it has caused some problems with ISPs that use "whitelisting" or "accept" lists, and reject as spam anything coming from an address not on those lists. AOL has had some real problems with this. The Shotwell list has been moved already and the new address is SHOTWELL@lists2.rootsweb.com . The -L has been removed from the list names and the from address shows which of the 9 mail machines houses the list. Please add this to your address books and check your SPAM folders for list messages. If any are found, please click the "This is NOT spam" button. This will help keep Rootsweb from ending up blocked as spammers, especially by the bigger web-based email servers. Both of the WV lists are due to move tomorrow. I will not know which machine # we are on until then. I will post a message late tomorrow night with the new list addresses in it. A quiet list doesn't help anyone! ;-) This list is not affiliated in any way with the WV Biographies project. I believe it used to be, but now it will be used as a source of obtaining biographies, and posting biographies for everyones benefit. A few list guidelines: 1. Don't *flame* anyone.
